Here's another vote for Ithaca. You may want to check out my Ithaca Photo Tour. My hometown of Scranton, PA would be another long-term possibility if and when they ever get their long-planned high-speed commuter rail to New York City off the ground. It is destined to then become a mecca for progressives seeking affordable historic real estate.

We've made a list of cities/towns to further explore. Anyone find some better than the others? Asheville. Madison. Baltimore. Providence. Minneapolis. Boston. Cape Cod. Annapolis. Bethesda. Portsmouth. Chapel Hill. Richmond. Burlington. Portland, MA. Looking for a walkable/bikeable, eco-conscious, progressive community with opportunities for creative professionals.

Look into Northampton, Ma. Eastern Massachusetts is very expensive, Cape Cod is not "walkable" at all.
