Orange County for sure.

Got nothing against Long Island, but I love Orange County, especially the Northern Part of it. Its very laid back, very diverse, and very close to everything in LA.

I spent 2 years working in Garden Grove. I love the Vietnamese neighborhood there! So much good food! Then just 5 miles south is Huntington Beach, a really laid back coastal community.

Orange County is super laid back. I love that. New York isnt. Thats fine for alot of people, but I prefer the laid back environment.

I dont think I could ever live in New York because I despise the cold. I had a chance to move to Toronto about 2 years ago. For a city, Toronto (along with Hong Kong) is my absolute favorite in the world! I couldnt do it. I cant deal with the weather.

To be honest, yea I've heard numerous things about Orange County on TV, and from real life people... The whole scene there to me is un-desirable. It can be as beautiful as anything but I rather have a better crowd (for my personality) around me.

There is no way to make a positive choice unless you live in each place, visiting a place and living in the other won't make your vote more reliable then mine. So what I'll go by is what I hear, you can point out my mistakes and I'll have no problem with it, but my vote still stays on Long Island because what Ive heard and experienced beats the things i've heard about OC.

Fair enough and I appreciate you answering honestly. I didn't even vote b/c I don't really like OC that much but not sure if I would like LI either, seems nice though in parts.

I just think it's a bit off when people who don't have much experiance in a place judge the people and culture based on what they see in the media and or "hear" from other people. B/c it's not like the NY area has the best reputation for people either but I'd be willing to bet it's not as bad as some make it out to be. But there is probably some truth to what you assume or else people wouldn't be saying it but they seem more like stereotypes.

Long Island.

I have friends from both areas and spent time in both areas. Personally, I like the West Coast beaches better but being that I am not really one to frequent beaches that wasn't a factor in my decison. I also took into consideration the large metros they are both near and NYC is more my speed. I really dislike
L A. Orange County is a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.

Very true, I guess the only way to know is to go to both places for an extended stay. Orange County definitely has more baggage whether it's wrong or right, but for now, Long Island is more my speed.

Assuming these places will NOT BECOME ANOTHER negative SO Cal. Statistic SOON.. Anywhere in either Newport Beach,Newport Coast, Crystal Cove, Laguna Beach to anywhere along the whole East coast. Maybe I should rethink this as California isn't really a real state anymore though..Long Island is nice

First of all Orange County is nothing like what is portrayed on TV. Like most cities it is populated by hard working and genuine people.

I have lived in both Orange County and Long Island. It would be a difficult choice to say which is better.

Demographically both are about the same, but there are no Guidos in Orange County.
I would also give Orange County points for Cultural Diversity.

Cost of living: Equal and high in both areas

Influence on pop culture: Orange County

Education: Equal

Pizza: Long Island
Mexican Food: Orange County
Restaurants in general: Equal

Wineries: Long Island

Shopping: Orange County (nothing compares to Fashion Island or South Coast Plaza)

Good nightlife in both areas, and both are close to major, happening cities.
Shutting down a bar in Orange County means going home around midnight
Shutting down a bar in Long Island means 4 in the Morning.

History: Long Island
Consumer Attractions (ie Disney, Knotts): Orange County

Diversity of architecture/residential: Long Island
Diversity of architecture/commercial: Orange County

Weather: Orange County, but the fall foliage is incredible on LI
Beaches: Long Island. I like white sand and Warm Water (the ocean is surprisingly cold in Orange County)
Scenery: Both have spectacular shorelines, but I would give it to Orange County because of the Mountains and wilderness areas.

Boating:
Long Island for variety of Marinas and the choice of Long Island Sound and the Ocean
Orange County for year round boating and a calmer ocean
Block Island vs. Catalina?

Traffic: Both Suck

I am currently the Saint Louis Area, although the city I live in (Lake Saint Louis) is like a poor mans version of Port Jeff or Newport Beach, I would take either Long Island or Orange County in place of being in stuck in Missouri.
