I know there are trees...your post about some type of tree just wasn't clear at all. That's why I asked "What trees?", as in "What trees are you talking about?" No need to get snippy.

Most definitely. The Hill Country immediately west of Austin has a very striking resemblence to California, with its hilly terrain covered with live oaks.

I think green in the winter is overrated. IT'S WINTER. Things are supposed to look gray and dead.
That's why I wouldn't like living some place like California. I never understood why people like things to be green with fair weather during November and December. It doesn't feel like Christmas that way. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy winter down south but nothing looks more weird than the sight of Santa Claus and reindeer under a palm tree.
That's why I can't wait until I have enough money to spend winter vacations up north in places like New York or Chicago where it actually looks like Christmas.
Yeah I know I'm the different guy.

Wow, you embrace the things Im scared of the most.
I struggle with cold weather because Im so used to it being warm and mild year round.
I spent 2 years in Chicago and I almost ripped my hair out. Fortunately I dont think Dallas is nearly as bad as Chicago for cold weather.

And for the record, most areas of the South don't even have palm trees.
