Haven't seen to many references to the Upper Midwest, so I figured I'd add my thoughts. If you can deal with a cold winter that lasts from December to late March, Minneapolis-St. Paul or Madison are great places to consider living. The quality of area schools, parks, low-crime, and availability of culture make them great places to live.
