I don't know if I would consider 60% White and 30% Black diverse. Whites and Blacks make up 80% of the population. I think Atlanta's Hispanic and Asian populations need to grow before we can consider it one of the most diverse cities in the country.

Diversity is overrated. I never really understood why this topic comes up so often, or why it's so important. I live in Orlando and in my subdivision, there are whites, blacks, hispanics (mostly hispanics actually), Indian/Pakistani, Asian, etc... and hardly anybody talks to one another and when you drive down the road, you hear about 4 or 5 different languages spoken, and nobody knowing what the he// anyone else is saying. :/

Jersey City and Oakland are probably the most diverse cities in the nation.

Heres what the DFW Metroplex is projected at for 2012:

White: 48%
Hispanic: 33%
Black: 13%
Asian: 6%

The numbers are rounded off, but thats basically the picture.

New York City, Chicago, LA, Oakland, and Houston. What makes these cities impressive is even outside of their city limits; amazing diversity still exists. You got areas majority Asian, blacks, Hispanics, and more.

That's only figures for two races...among those two races are different nationalities of hispanics and other foreign-born residents as well as Hispanic-Americans. You can't just note that Atlanta is 90% black and white, then write it off as non-diverse. Black and white have tons of diversity within each race.

I wasn't trying to say that Atlanta is one of the most diverse cities in the U.S. It was just a response to someone's comment that Atlanta isn't diverse.

I never really thought about that. Chicago is only about 5% Asian, but DuPage county, with around 1 million residents and 20-30 miles west of downtown has twice as many Asians % wise. Kane County, 35-45 miles west of downtown with over 500,000 people is over 25% hispanic. Areas on the far Southwest and Northwest tend to have a pretty majority white though. It seems black and whites tend to be growing fastest in areas that are already majority black or white. The fastest growing segment though is Hispanics, who now make up over 1,900,000 of Chicagoland's population, and tend to be growing all across the metro area, although mostly in white/asian areas.

What do you all consider diverse? The percentage of different races or the amount of different ethnicities?

We can say one city is 40% Hispanic 30% White 20% Black and 10% Asian while the next city is 50% white and 25% Hispanic and 25% Black

The first city looks more diverse in numbers, but the 25% of hispanics in the second city could be comprised of Puerto Ricans, Mexicans, Cubans, Nicaraguans, Guatemalans, etc. while the first city's 40% could be all Mexican and the Asians could be all Chinese.

My point exactly...race only tells a small part of the story.

Exactly!, race is too broad of a category to support diversity.
