Are all of those pictures from Los Angeles proper?
It is okay if Chicago does not win in every category. Chicago is one of my favorite cities in the world, but in the natural scenery category, LA offers more. Very few sane people could say otherwise.
You say you aren't a big fan of mountains, but can you elaborate on what a 'Chicago without buildings' offers in terms of natural scenery that LA cannot touch?

I would say that autumns and white Christmases are the few more beautiful things Chicago has to offer in terms of scenery that LA doesn't.
I find the city of LA ugly, but outside it is some of the most beautiful and diverse scenic areas in the country. Beaches, deserts, palm trees, it beats Chicago by far.

I was going to say seasons for Chicago, too. I was in LA one October and one thing I noticed was that there were no autumn colors anywhere, while at the time Chicago's foliage was at its peak.
Also, Chicago gets snow in the winter, which can be very picturesque and scenic on the landscape, the trees, etc. In LA you have to travel outside the city and into the mountains to see snow.
we are talking scenery not buildings. if he wanted to ask about buildings, he would have said skyline.
Wait now...I was thinking that skyline and other man-made features were part of the scenery. The OP didn't specifically indicate natural scenery, so wouldn't that mean ALL of the scenery?
I think most people realize that "scenery" implies natural setting. In which case, L.A. wins and it isn't close.
