Without the Pyramid building in San Francisco, it would just be a skyline full of boxes. The geography of San Francisco makes it's pictures more appealing but the geography is irrelevant to the actual skyline.
San Francisco has a much larger skyline than Dallas, and a great natural setting to go along with it. Not to mention it's a far more dense skyline as well. Yeah SF has plenty of boxy and boring buildings, but not all the buildings are boring boxes, and there's a good deal of nice towers mixed in. And it's not like the skyscraper architecture in Dallas is that great for the most part either...There's more glass in the Dallas skyline, and they have more pretty lights at night, but there's no truly amazing buildings, and I see a lot of boring boxes there too.

well they're not all boxed buildings but they're not that interesting to look at either. it's all subjective i guess. people vote for dallas because they think that the buildings are more interesting than san francisco, although they are arguably not much more interesting in particular. others vote for san francisco because it is dense and has a much more beautiful landscape to compliment it and there are also quite a few nice buildings to look at.
You've clearly never been to San Francisco - it has far more skyscrapers than Dallas, Downtown LA, and many other places.
..... and?
Just having more skyscrapers doesn't instantly make for a better skyline.
