i dont know how anyone could say chicago. ny is definately the winner. and i dont see the fascination about chicago's skyline. yes its tall, modern, and lakefront, but ny is denser, larger, has more diversity, and is in all around better city. if i were to move to one it would definately be ny:better weather, more fun, more variety of food, and it would the most amazing thing walking around at midnight with no less people on the streets.

los angeles with its mountains, san diego with the beaches and mountains, miami with its islands and beaches, and seattle and portland with mountains also havemagnificent skylines thanks to the natural beauty of the area, although the actual skylines are not comparable

Why do you care what people think about Chicago or New York?
Have you ever been to Chicago? or New York? Or are you one of those sorts on the west coast thinking something along the lines of:
OMG, Chicago is in the Midwest, how gross, nothing remotely interesting could EVER come out of the midwest, ewww!
I have been to nyc and the east coast (boston/new england area where I have family) many, many times and have lived in Chicago for many, many years (pretty much my whole life) and have walked around some pretty crowded streets here at 3am too. Basically I look at it this way, I get about 75% of what I can get in new york here for about 50% of the price (try getting a one bedroom in the equivalent of Williamsburg, Brooklyn for $650 a month like I have ... yes, I have friends who live in Brooklyn, I've stayed in Williamsburg, Park Slope, and all those other places that goofy looking hipsters hang out, and my cousins from the east coast who have visited me have also made similar comments, I'm not just talking out my rear).
Don't get me wrong, I stated on more than one thread about nyc and chicago that there are many aspects of nyc that I prefer over chicago, but given that this discussion actually regularly exists leaves me to believe, for a city that is only 1/3 of the size of new york, we offer a pretty good take on urban living (now if they would only do something about the CTA and that absurd law that has banished street food vendors from downtown, I would be much happier).
Oh, and I agree, the Yankees are evil I tell you (but that comes from being related to too many New Englanders, I think that anyone less that one generation removed from New England is genetically predisposed to irrationally hate the New York Yankees
hahahaha This thread is completely useless. I guess, when not "partaying" in Cali, they have nothing better to do than bash a great city. Put it this way, Chicago is only 1/3 the size of NYC, yet offers EVERYTHING that NYC does. I wonder what NYC would be like if we took 6 million people out of it....
And next time you show a skyline picture of Chicago, make sure to include the WHOLE THING. Your picture only shows about 1/2 the skyline. And Chicago's skyline has often ranked above NYC's in terms of beauty. Its not just size that matters, but more ethereal beauty. Sao Paolo's skyline is the perfect example.

yes. i have been to both cities and enjoyed new york city much more. i've been to all the major cities from boston to d.c. my parents actually moved from chicago because there was nothing to do there at night in the suburbs they said. they said there was no night life whatsoever outside of downtown. nyc has a continuous night life in all parts of the city
and yes, i hate the yankees as well, but i usually watch football so care much
hahahahaaaa Nothing to do at night in the city and the suburbs? Youre SORELY mistaken. And youre making it more obvious that you NOR your parents have ever lived in the area. If they couldnt find anything to do, well, thats their problem. There are 10s of 1000s of people who clog downtown Chicago's streets EVERY night, who all have destinations. Ever been stuck in a traffic jam in downtown Chicago at 3 am? I have. Numerous times. If there was "nothing to do", the downtown would be a ghosttown after sundown, kinda like SLC or Phoenix or Providence.

If they lived in the city, why would they be trying to find things to do in the suburbs? And if they lived in the suburbs, of course there's nothing to do in the suburbs. There's nothing to do in the burbs of most areas, unless you're from someplace like Toledo, where there's actually more to do in the burbs and outlying areas of the city than downtown.

Of course there is nothing to do in the suburbs, I highly doubt that suburban new york is a plethora of nightlife either.
I can think of many reasons to move away from Chicago, and have considered many of them myself (about 5 years ago I was actively applying for jobs in the Boston area, but didn't get any bites). But lack of nightlife in the suburbs seems to be a bit of a silly one to me.

Stay in Cali where you belong. If you don't like the Yankees, you do not belong in NY.
