Well, in my opinion I can see both sides...I mean New york is older and more connected to europe. But yes...LA's climate and topography does resemble the mediterranean. They even call santa barbara the american riviera. I mean c'mon. The french riviera is known for it's medditerranean climate. Is prague world renwoned it's continental climate, no.. So my conlcusion is NYC seem more european as a city but LA seems to have more of a eurpean feel once you leave the city...Just another way LA and NY seem to be a yin to each other's yang. IN my humble opinion. I call it a draw

New York is far more "European" than LA, but both cities are distinctively American.

and something ive noticed, moreso along the lines of the whole state of california, seems to regard the east the way the east regarded europe back in the day. I mean, many californians think of themselves as their own country and would rather secede from the rest. And in the east, people say they're ancestors are from ireland, africa, russia, etc. But in CA a lot of the time their ancestors are from pennsylvania, maryland etc. haha. But in any way, both really arent eurpoean at all...especially the city of LA itself. I think it would be a better contest between their nothern neighbors perhaps, Boston of SF? hm that makes way more sense.

yes... I hear the quote "back east" blah blah blah quite often, as it were some ancient land that was not a 199 dollar southwest flight away..

What I am shocked from growing up in the Eastern Time Zone is the run ins with people who have never actually BEEN back east except maybe once when they were 8 to visit their aging grand mom and get some italian ice.

There was somebody watching some gangster movie set in Boston, and spouted off some stuff about sleezeballs and accents etc, as if everybody or even a minute amount of the population there was like that. Please, Boston is more cultured and refined than *anything* out West.

I suppose however, I did run into many while growing up who though of California and Hollywood as some kind of dreamland...

*Drools*

NY has a Humid Subtropical climate.

The Black Sea coast of Bulgaria, Romania, Sochi, Russia and southernmost Ukraine have the same climate as well as other small parts of Europe, the Mediterranean climate is more prominent though.
