6 million is an easy feat from where it is right now. That is true. If it adds 140,000 minimum or even 110,000 minimum each year to the metropolitan area then if June 2009 estimates put it at 5.9 million, by June 2010 it would be nearing or above 6 million for sure.

I think end result at the highest would be 6,030,000 or so.

I think Houston Metro has added one million people a decade since 1970. Let me see if I find the link. It is maintaining growth for a really long time

I'm not certain about the metro area, but it's almost an absolute certainty that Columbus' population
will be just under the 800,000 mark, or could potentially eclipse it by a small margin. In 2008, the population indicated 775,000 inhabitants ( most estimates ) within the cities borders. There's been a large influx of people that have relocated from more economically distressed areas, furthering growth in the city proper.

I strongly doubt the 760k for the city. Probably 740k at the best, and even that I don't see. I give Charlotte 720-730k.

As far as the MSA I've been hearing rumors that Cleveland, and now from you Iredell county will be added to the Charlotte MSA. If that's so, then I think your MSA projection could be right. Otherwise I see it at 1.8million at the absolute highest.

With the CSA, I have not heard any new counties being added but perhaps your 2.7 may not be off, although I think 2.5 may be more accurate.

Does anyone know if new counties are being added to MSAs/CSAs?

In 2000, Detroit's population was at 951,000. I remember reading a Free Press article about 6 or so months ago saying that about 100,000 Detroiter's in the last decade had moved from the city to the suburbs for better schools and other reasons. In 2000, Detroit Public Schools had approx. 145,000 students enrolled in the district. In 2006, 117,000. And in 2009, 88,000. Where could all those students be going?

I could change my estimate to ~800,000, but that's as high as I'm going to go. Detroit's condition does lead me to believe anything else.

I hate to think this way.....but I think under this adminstration and the way they have reorganized who the Census is under....Cities like Dertoit will get more favorable counts or (adjustments). You have to remember that many cities sued for undercounts for the mathematical margins of errors that were high for minoriites. Moreover, there have been more hispanics moving into the city as well. Also....I think some people who moved from detroit without skills to places like Atlanta and the like.....had to move back with family in Detroit once those places hit hard times.

With Trenton/Mercer/Hightstown/Princeton and AC being added back to the Philly MSA - MSA population will be around 6.7-6.8 million

SF Proper: 850,000
SF MSA: 4.5 Million
SF CSA: 7.8 Million

This is what the State of California currently estimates the 2010 population to be and I suspect the Census will follow suit.

If we add Stockton, the CSA population will be 8.4 Million
