For the year 2009 (as stated), I would agree with Omaha.

I'm going to be a homer on this one. Milwaukee. With all the redevelopment and future plans that already have been approved for next year. Double digit crime drops in the last 3 years and our homicide numbers have dropped from their high of 165 to a low of 85 over the last 10 years.

Quoting myself, but I'll also add the mayoral election, too.

Did the nicest thing by offering housing for many displaced New Orleans hurricane victims

Weathered a destructive hurricane and handled looting wonderfully

Became even more cosmopolitan during the decade

Continue to diversify one of the most diverse economies in America

Did a great job hosting the superbowl

Many great things to be proud of around here during the decade

Really? The latest GDP figures still show the Metroplex ahead of Houston from what I remember.

Underrated!

First thing that comes to mind with Milwaukee. Great city overshadowed by Chicago. Just like Philly and New York.

Nope. The latest had Houston above DFW.

(4th)Greater Houston GAP-$403,202
(6th)DFW Metroplex-$379,863

It seems like Houston surpassed Dallas in 2006, and has been ahead in GAP ever since.
This link has a complete table of MSA's across the US. http://bea.gov/newsreleases/regional..._metro0909.pdf
And thats from the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

More recent estimates have Houston's GAP at $435.9

Check that Milwaukee recorded 72 not 85 homicides in 2009 one more than the 20 year low. Still 72 too many!
