New York City. It's the city that never sleeps.

The best dancing in the NY area would be in NJ with all the guidos.
But I will vouch for LA that the nightlife is par excellence. The 2 AM closings do annoy me but the quality of the nightlife is tops and there are places that can be found that are open later.
NY's problem is that the city is overrun with the largest hipster infestation in the history of the world. They prefer to just stand around posing and showing off their scruffy beards, Elvis Costello glasses, fedoras and pork pie hats, skinny jeans worn halfway down their asses in mock gangsta fashion, and bright pink Pumas, Converse or other "throwback/retro" sneakers.

Thanks!
The difference is that in any other city in the USA if you are in a club or bar you can point the hipsters out of the crowd; in NYC, the hipsters ARE the crowd, and you can point the few non-hipsters out of the crowed.

I would say that over the summer Chicago is a well known destination to have a good time and go out, and from my experience people have known it as a fun party town in the summer.
But NYC takes the cake for the #1 nightlife destination in the country. Then Miami, then Chicago, LA, and Vegas can battle it out.
But I wouldn't say that Chicago appeals to that many people during the winter and spring months.

Yeah, and that's primarily in the Midwest. Why would people choose Chi-town over NYC or LA?

That's funny. I didn't know NYC was that FULL with them. Alot of them are starting to move into previously bad gentrified areas from what I heard.

It is not that bad. Most of them stick to Manhattan clubs. There are some clubs and bars in Brooklyn that would not even let them in dressed like clowns.

Same with Austin. Supposedly, every one in five people you meet downtown on any given night is an artist, musician, or film maker.
