New York marks fewest murders ever - CNN.com

^^their you go in that link on december 30th 2009 it was recorded that nyc had 461 murders, but when all the math was done after deceber 31st nyc recorded 471.

the nytimes homicide map is way of, and the map itself tells you in fine print that not every homicide is counted.
My bad, i didn't see the small print at the bottom. It was pretty late at night.Good to know NYPD is staying on top of it's homicide rate. But NYC and even LA do a pretty bad job on documenting it's murders.I haven't found any other credible source that can document each murder. And LA usually adds up there homicides up with the rest of LA county when they should be just counting that city's murders and not all of the suburbs surrounding it.

A while back people were telling me Miami had 622 murders in one year in the 80s, this is not true. They said it was the city but it was actually Miami-Dade County.

At that time (1982 I believe), Miami-Dade County had a population of 1.7 million, still making the murder rate for the whole county 36.6/per 100k which is comparable with Baltimore now. This was during the "Scarface" days where many Cubans and Central/S Americans were running massive amounts of drugs through S Florida and the violence was out of control.

The most murders Miami itself had in one year I believe was that same year at around 200, at a rate of 57.3/per 100k, still very high.

I'm sure you know this, but most cities don't include their county or metro when talking about homicides.. it'd be a completely different story nation wide
Miami-Dade is not the metro area, it's a county. South Florida is the metro area. Why don't they include counties and metros?
