Just of out of curiosity, I'm wandering what other U.S. areas are similar to the part of the U.S. I'm from

I want/have

all 4 seasons
to be no more than 1 hour from the ocean
to live in an area with a significant Italian Population
to live 1-3 hours from a major U.S. City
I would prefer to have decent mass transit to that city, or at least good highway access
to be able to live in a rural setting

Only in the northeast - pretty much north of Baltimore.

Maybe Bay Area, though I have no stats on Italians there.

New Orleans has everything except the 4 seasons and the rural setting. Not sure if you would want to live in Louisiana though. The Northshore area would be closer to rural and safer and still offer access to the Italian population. It would lack transit though.

Theres no SIGNIFICANT Italian population but one could live in the North Bay in a rural setting,30+/- minutes from the coast or closer and have access (40 mins to 2 hrs) to San Francisco's North Beach (Italian) neighborhood. The only problem is the 4 seasons, Fall is not as drastic as out East or even the Mid West and there is no snow though you could be around 2 hours from the Sierras and lots of snow.
Maybe somewhere in Connecticut with access to NY and it's Italian population or around Providence,RI.

I would suggest somewhere in eastern Connecticut. It's perhaps less solidly Italian than the rest of the state (lots of French-Canadians, Irish, English, etc.), but still with a very significant Italian population. There are many picturesque small New England towns in rural areas here. (I'm thinking in particular of towns like Voluntown, Plainfield, Canterbury, Brooklyn, Pomfret, Woodstock, etc.)

There are a number of cities within driving distance: Providence, Hartford, and Worcester are all within an hour of most towns in the region, while New Haven, Boston, and even New York are all also very close.

Why do you need to be near Italians? Just curious?

The Italian Neighborhoods are much stronger in the east to be sure.

Seattle used to have Garlic Gulch. Although that area has changed. It certainly fits the rest of your criteria however.

I like being around other Italians. It gives me something to talk about, and helps me in knowing that I can find good bread and other specialty foods.
