Having lived in both as a kid and as an adult, pound for pound, NYC is way more diverse. DC is probably in the top 5 in the US.

I think that pound for pound, DC has better quality cultural attractions though. The best in the country

I'm not sure that this still holds true but aren't most cultural attractions/museums in DC free? That alone puts DC above most cities.

DC doesnt have a lot carribean. I have been there. There are more Mexican than anything. I don't mean that in a bad way, just saying.

Actually, I would say that there is a decent sized Caribbean population, and it probably would come in right behind NYC and Miami on the east coast for largest Caribbean population. Going with what the OP asked in categories between the two cities, I would give everyone of those categories to NYC, but that doesn't slight DC in anyway. DC is still a top 4 city in the US right after NYC, LA and CHI.

For the most part, I think there's a fair amount of understanding between NYC and DC. Both cities know their turf and where they stand in the nation, and are cool with it.

Which one would I rather live in? DC. That's why I'm here. I think it's a more livable city than NYC. Now, that doesn't mean there aren't things that NYC has over DC in droves. I love visiting NYC, and spending a few days in Manhattan just strolling about and taking it in.

But live there? I much prefer DC.

Hard choice. Different worlds but both great. Probably DC; closer to my roots.
