By my reckoning, from Tampa, a weekend ski trip to the Blue Ridge ski areas would not be feasible (8 hour one way drive) whereas from Atlanta, it is as simple as a couple or three hour drive on a Friday after work.

I think he probably meant water skiing...which is also available on the large lakes around Atlanta.
Atlanta would be better. Bigger city, better economy, cheaper housing. But Tampa is cool though, and it is very ideal for landscaping. Both are great cities.
Again, I work in the field, you two don't. I naturally know a lot more about other major school districts in the country. Usually when you work in a certain field, you know how it is in other areas of the country.
