I don't really have a dog in this fight but saw this stated elsewhere on the forum. What say you?

Yes. It is true. I don't know why you are shocked. LA is a HUGE city with many nice parts and many not so nice parts. Don't believe the hype that you see on TV or in the movies.

Crime rate lowest in 50 years, LAPD says | The Los Angeles Independent - Community Newspaper Serving Hollywood and West Hollywood | Hollywood

An excerpt from the article:
Quote:
Crime rates in Los Angeles in 2009 were the lowest in 50 years, despite the economic downturn, the mayor and police chief announced Wednesday.

“From the Valley to Boyle Heights, from West L.A. to South L.A., the results have proven indisputable,” Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said at police headquarters.
L.A. these days is not what most people think it is. Especially as the city goes through gentrification and urban renewal.

Sure, whatever you say. Like this isn't just another excuse to bash Milwaukee. What happened, has Milwaukee City been stirring up trouble in the Madison Forum?

Perhaps you should actually do some research before you go making false claims.

Metro Crime Rate Rankings (Low to High)
227 Milwaukee, WI
233 Los Angeles (greater), CA

Believe it or not this is part of her attempt to come to Milwaukee's defense -- or more accurately, to try to show me up. Though you are correct in your instinct that her claim to have "no dog in this fight" is not quite true; see this post and the surrounding context for the background story.

A ton of cities have higher crime rates than LA, including Minneapolis and San Francisco.

There are 76 cities in the US with 250,000 residents or more. Of those cities, 33 had lower violent crime rates than LA in 2008, and 43 had higher violent crime rates than LA in 2008.

So that means that as of 2008 roughly 57% of the biggest cities in the nation have higher violent crime rates than LA...Milwaukee isn't the only one.

Problem is, the data you posted is metro areas, not cities proper.
