Maybe Texas? They seem about as Texan as they are American, of course partly due to history. Others that come to mind are New York, Virginia, Massachussetts and California in a way (although they seem to take it for granted).

What do you think? List one or more than one state.

Obviously California and the others you mentioned, but one which often goes unmentioned is Minnesota, which seems to have a huge sense of community and civic responsibility bordering on extremism.

Seems like we had this once.

I tried to Google "state pride", but I mostly got hits for gay and transsexual rights sites. Trying to filter out LGBT related issues I mostly got stuff about state college pride. I found a bit better results searching for "proud of state", but not much better. Basically a bit about New York and a bit about Alaska.

I remember linking to that one deal on Pew Research. According to it Texans are most likely to stay in their state of birth. That might imply state-pride.

Texas is also the second biggest state, and is diverse enough that you could move within the state and it woud feel like a big change.

Maryland, the state that comes to the top of my head first (mostly because I live right right next to it. But I find that a lot of Maryland residents take a lot of pride in where they live, not really counting the non natives. A lot of my family lives in MD and all of them love it. But i will mention that counties like Montgomery and Prince George's are a bit different then the rest of MD. Both are overpopulated and have transient populations so a good number of the residents in those counties aren't natives. The biggest explanation for this is the fact they both border D.C.

That's a good point that I think entered my mind. There are few smaller states like Utah or Minnesota near the top

Like I said I had trouble finding things that would really measure state pride.

I can't see Utah as having that much state pride. Mormons are a large percent of the population and aren't they technically supposed to be humble?

I think that's a confusion of the "unique culture" with the "pride" topic. Hawaii's certainly unique, but is it one of the most prideful?

It's Texas, no question. Runner-ups would be Cali, Noo Yawk and Joisey. Maybe there's others I'm not aware of. It sure as hell ain't Indiana!
