Just a guess, Miami, Houston, and Dallas would probably be the largest centers in the South for Latin Gangs.

Are there places that have high crime but is mostly not gang related? It would be interesting to see if there are some since law enforcement strategies would likely be different in those areas.

I would be amazed if any city in the South could outdo New Orleans for Black gangs. Memphis is elementary school compared to NOLA.

Chicago does have a lot of gangs, but so does New York, Miami, LA and other cities and states......any area where there is poverty there is gang activity..we even have gangs in Aurora, IL, which is a west suburb of Chicago...

The two cities with massive street gang problems are Chicago and Los Angeles. No other city comes close not even NYC. According to Chicago law enforcement, Chicagoland has about 140-150K gang members with LA County between 110-120K. NYC and the NY side of the NYC suburbs are at about 60K. Rounding out the top 5 are Phoenix and Memphis.

Philly has its flash mobs but gangs are surprisingly scarce, as I understand it there are many small neighborhood gangs in Philly, but these days when people talk gangs they are talking about big organizations, not kids who rarely go more than a few blocks away from their corner. So I'm saying... not Philly.

Chicago seemed very sketchy in the bad parts, I took a bus from Midway airport to University of Chicago along Garfield Ave. and for some stretches things even got shady on the bus with gang kids yelling threats through the doors. Taking a cab next time, that's for sure.

South Central LA itself has gangs with 300-4,000 membership on every corner and block. I highly doubt any other cites worst neighborhoods are like that.
