Yikes, was this poll made just for me?! I live in Georgia, lived in Florida, considering moving to Texas, for my career and eventually retiring in NC.

1) Georgia - I generally enjoy living in Atlanta, but there are days in which I wonder if the grass is greener on the other side. However, there are other parts of Georgia that I have no desire to live in. I'd live in Savannah, or I could be happy living along the Sea Islands though. Georgia is a truly beautiful state. I could do without the silly politics and general ratchet foolishness, but that complaint could be applied to any state.

2) North Carolina - I LOVE North Carolina. I love the beauty of the state from the mountains to the sea, the colleges, the tranqulity of the OBX, etc. The only thing is that I find the cities there too small for my liking. That being said, I wouldn't cry if I were to move to Charlotte or Raleigh-Durham

3) Texas - I'd live in Dallas or Houston. While I like Texas, I think it may be a bit of an adjustment (culture-wise) for me to live there, but it wouldn't be anything I couldn't handle. The state has many beautiful parts, and there seems to be a quirky charm to it that I can appreciate.

4) Florida - Living there and visiting are two entirely different things. I've learned that I like visiting the state much better than I did living there.

I am much like you in some regards. I have lived in Texas (Houston), Atlanta, twice, South Florida for 8 years and have spent considerable time in NC.

1) NC: Good job prospects going forward, easier pace, beautiful scenery, generally friendly

2) Georgia/Texas: What one doesn't have, the other make probably does and vice versa. Texas probably has the edge on jobs right now but, terrain and land beauty, Georgia wins hands down. Depends if you get outdoors a bit.

3) Florida is dead last. My time was spent in South Florida. 8 years so it's a good measure. The people found there are about as rude and nasty as you are going to find anywhere and we aren't talking about a few neighbors. I spent 8 years in outside sales an between their demeanor, unwillingness to pay their bills, business tactics, and general nasty attitudes, you can keep it. There is literally not enough money to ever get me to live there again. I"ve been working that area since 1989 and it has never really improved. While business has picked up, the same rear ends abound and the simplest things in life are always a hassle.

You have to fight with the lawn guy, the pool guy, the trash guy, any service type in general. Traffic is pretty stiff as well. It does have great scuba diving and boating, no doubt but, you dont' get to do that every day so take it with a grain of salt. You will fight for parking spaces. If you turn your blinker on, they are likely to tighten up the lane. It's like everyone is on edge and no one is going to lift a finger unless there is something in it for them.

Sarasota, Jacksonville, parts of the panhandle are quite a bit different to their credit. South Florida? Other than being "God's waiting room" it has little merit and yet fully 1/2 of the state's economy.

Don't take my word for it, read the blogs. There is quite a few common denominators out there for you to read and see what I am talking about. It's the only place I know where you can spend $200 for a hotel and get treated like crap for the effort. Amazing.

While I lived in Tampa Bay, which is where our grandparents grandparents go to retire , your assessment is pretty spot on. I spent a lot of time in South Florida when I lived there, and I was quite appalled at the rude service and people we had to put up with. There was also a tension that you could feel in the air, as if something could pop off at any moment.

It felt more cosmopolitan and urbane than Tampa, but I always felt like I was risking my life when I drove around Miami, LOL. I like Ft. Lauderdale and WPB a lot more if I had to live down there.

I do like Orlando for some strange reason though
