I2I. When I first lived in Florida, I would go to the beach almost EVERY weekend. However, the prices, lack of parking and the crowds began to take their toll until "every weekend" was reduced to "once a month" to "once every other month" to "hell no, I'm not going there, we're going to the mall!" When I knew I was moving to Georgia, I knew that I was taking my access to the beach for granted, so I did make a concerted effort to go to the beach a little bit more, but I still didn't go as frequently as I did when I first went there.

However, I think the beaches in Florida are among the most beautiful in the country. The only other state that would even touch it would be Hawaii.

Or California.

The beach is a very small part of most people's lives down here - at least the folks that I know and talk to.

That is somewhat true. I was born in Florida also, and when I lived there we hardly ever went to the beach. The beaches down there are filled with tourist and NON natives. I've been to Miami a TRILLION times, but I've NEVER been to South Beach. Go figure!

LMAO...Whenever I go down to South Florida to visit my family, whenever I mention something about going to South Beach, they ask me, "Why in hell do you want to go down there?!"

Honestly, I wanna go to South Beach just to see what it's like. ALL my cousins that live down there have been. It's the same way how I lived in Texas, but I've never been to South Padre but all my friends have. This may be off topic, but you were born in SoCal and have family in South Florida?

Have lived in 3 of them: NC , TX and FL. I live in both FL and NC now. If I had to pick one overall, I'd pick NC from my experience. But, all have their positive attributes.

I was actually born in Kansas, but I was 2 when I moved from there to SoCal. My dad was a minister for 25 years, so we moved quite a bit when I was younger. We lived in Cali for many years, but I have NEVER been to San Francisco. I've been to Tahoe, but skipped right over the Bay Area.
My family in South Florida is on my mothers side of the family.

Why yes, yes it was...His story reminded me of how my cousins and great-aunt looked at me as of I had 3 heads because I dared to mention South Beach.
