Not quite...
t's actually the only city that is southern by law... . Check out the Residence Act of 1790.
Back then the south agreed to allow the newly formed federal government to assume all war debts if the capital was reloated to the south. That's why it's was not in much larger cities like NY or Philly, but was made in essentially uninhabited land.

Yeah technically DC was to be a buffer between the north/south.

There are a large number of daily commuters between Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, MI. I don't know exactly how it works, but I would expect something similar in other international Metro Areas including El Paso/Juarez and definitely San Diego/Tijuana.

From my experience it seems like we have a lot closer of a relationship with Canada than Mexico. We treat Canada like our own. With the drug wars and crime in Mexico, I could've sworn it would be harder for them to cross into the States that often.

if you've ever been down to Juarez you would see that the border is very busy, I dont know how they come over but there are alot of cars coming and going, there are lots of Mexico and New Mexico plates in El Paso, thats why it looks like it has more people than it does.
