Hello there. I was hoping there might be some people here who have lived in both Minneapolis and Pittsburgh and can give me some advice.
Right now I live in Pittsburgh, always have lived in the area. My girlfriend lives in Minneapolis. One of us is going to have to move.
I did visit Minneapolis, but that trip was more about meeting people rather than seeing the area. So I've really only been in the suburbs there, and am in no position to say whether or not I like the city.
They're the two whitest major metropolitan areas in the country.
As for opportunities, if you have a bachelor's degree, go with the Twin Cities. If you have an advanced degree, go with Pittsburgh.
It is true that both metro areas are majority white. However, as of the 2000 census, the Minneapolis MSA had a foreign born population of about 300,000 whereas the Pittsburgh MSA had a foreign born population of about 73,000.
The Minneapolis area is also home to the largest Somali, Hmong, Oromo (Ethiopian), Liberian, Karen (Burmese) and Anuak (Ethiopian/Sudanese) populations in the U.S., and is home to the second largest Tibetan population.
I am a big fan of the Twin Cities and have lived here all my life except four years, but I'd have to say Pittsburgh is the only other city i'd want to live in. I love the hills which contrast greatly with the flatness of Minneapolis; St. Paul is hillier but not in the same league as Pittsburgh.
Location: Austin, TX/Chicago, IL/Houston, TX/Washington, DC

Pittsburgh is one of those places I would consider living too.
If not MPLS it would be
Seattle
Denver
Portland
Chicago
Pittsburgh
Why? The Steelers, the sweet Topography, PNC Park and the rivers. Pittsburgh just looks cool.
