Ay, I ain't tryin' to put down California @ all. Does the whole country need it to stay a-runnin'? No. Neither do we need New York. If something happened to California, would Wyoming go up in flames? Hell naw. But ay. We grow our own food, raise our own cattle, & believe it or not, we put a lot on the market. I put a lot of my crops on the market to keep my proffet up. It's not a contest. I'm just sayin' we'd be fine without New York or California.

Are you for real? Riding around California on a horse! If you have spent any time at all in California you would realize that the urban core are the large cities along the coast: San Diego\ Los Angeles and the Bay Area. Almost all the rest of the state is wide-open farm country\ deserts and mountains. Take a look at a map. I really am wondering about your honesty.

You are right, however, when you say that most of the large cities are on the coste. There is open space, but it's mainly taken up by smaller cities. I look @ maps everyday. California is urban minus the spread out rural towns.
