Industry experts worry that New York will become a place where art is presented but not made, turning the city into an institutionalized sort of Disney Land. One arts executive says it could become “a Washington, D.C.,” a sterile, planned city with a number of cultural institutions but few artists—certainly not a place known as a birthplace for new cultural ideas and trends.
IAnd then, the argument is about blue collar Chicago of all places. Ghetto doesn't begin to describe it. In D.C., all races have money by much larger numbers than everywhere. Having things to do is subjective based on what each person likes. Having education is factual data and D.C. is head and shoulders over Chicago period.
Such an ignorant post; sure Chicago has a large blue collar presence, it also has a large white collar presence as well. If you look back on the history of most cities, it is the blue collar workers who created most of the great neighborhoods in every city (NYC, Philly, Boston, Chicago); DC is the exception, the city was not built around any blue collar industry, it is the most true white collar city out there, and it shows. The city feels very sterile compared to cities built by Blue Collar workers.

And I don't see how a large blue collar population precludes cultural sophistication. New York and London both have large working-class populations. Does that mean Washington, DC is more sophisticated than those cities too?
Good god, without getting into the fight at all, as a person who has family in the DC area, really good friends in the DC area and absolutely loves going there multiple times a year - many of these posts from the DC people are doing nothing but making the city and its people look desperate for affirmation while being extremely pompous at the same time. Not trying to be mean, but CALM DOWN a little bit and have a mature debate.

The population of the New York area, London area, and the Washington D.C. area don't really have anything in common with the Chicago area and that's pretty much a fact. Come to your own conclusion based on that.

I didn't say anything that was not true. I said D.C. is more educated which it is and I said D.C. commands much higher earning power which it does. Education is directly related to earning power so it all correlates.
