However, Kansas City and Lincoln, Nebraska are just WEST of the population center and have no business being on this list.

No, I refrain from voting in "which city is best" threads.
I haven't ever been to a city that I haven't liked, so I don't play favorites.
All are great cities, and all were built upon their peoples hard work, no way I'm going to play favorites.
I picked Chicago over them all because it's home, friends and memories.
Otherwise, I probably would have picked any of them.

When did Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Indiana, Wisconsin, Kansas, and Nebraska become part of the Northeast? That's all Midwest.
I know the 1st post said New England, Mid-Atlantic, and Midwest but I don't think I've ever met anyone who thought of the Midwest as part of the Northeast or the other way around. The Northeast is its own major region containing the Mid-Atlanic and New England, and the Midwest is another major region on its own. Richmond's a bit of a stretch too, but anyway, I find it hard to pick any one of these cities, especially with so many here.
My fav out of all these is Hartford, just cause it's my fav lol. If i have to pick the "best", I guess it's NYC cause of all it offers. Although I'd be biased on that one too. Honestly, I don't think I can really pick between NYC, Boston, and DC.

Although both Kansas and Missouri have a Kansas City, I'm sure the original poster meant Kansas City, Mo.

Yes, but it's neither, hence 'midwest'. By the way, Nebraska=NE, not NB; NB=New Brunswick...

NYC shouldn't be on the list. It is number one by universal acclimation. It will be interesting to see what city is number 2, though. And I'd argue that number 2 in the northeast means number 2 in the country.
