How come this got moved to general us? I don't think that many people in here will have that much to add to the discussion.
...this thread is really going to anger some people here based on what some of us NYers said, lol.
Being it was probably in the NY forum and all the people there decided they would just use the chance to throw out every negative stereotype of other areas, I think it was good for it to be moved to the general US, if anything to show more of the true colors of some of the posters.
As far as adding to the discussion I didn't really see anything of value that was added to it before the move besides a couple of posts noting the lack of nature areas.
As for someone bringing up Pelham Bay Park, what if you want to take your kids out at night to see some owls or bats. Are you really going to go walking through the woods there with your kids at night?
Beside the fact that it is not a continuous 2700 acres. Sure you can go see one area and then hop back in the car and go see another then get back in the car and head to the next area. The golf courses are probably 1/3 of that acreage also.
The water the park fronts on is truly some of the nastiest you will see. The Hutchinson River and Eastchester Bay are hard to consider nature.
I've never been to NYC so can't really answer, but I'm pretty sure NYC doesn't have the following
Amish people - There are Amish markets, but they seem to be unrelated.
Nez Perce Indians - There are many American Indians in New York, but I think it's mostly Iroquoian and that members of many Western tribes rarely settled in NYC.
Duck hunting
Mountains - The Catskills look to be a bit outside NYC.
And I would assume a clear view of the stars is usually impossible in NYC due to light pollution.
LOL, 2700 acres is now "nature". I guess that can only be by NYC standards.
Pelham Bay is just one park in The Bronx. NYC has a huge amount of parkland. Some of the parks are world famous.
In any case, you will find nature in the 26,600 acres of Gateway National Recreation Area. This includes the 9,000+ acre Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refugee, the only wildlife refugee operated by the National Park Service.
Super-clean air--of course if you go out 100 miles into the Atlantic, you might get that as well.
