You know which is the most Northern Culture? You know everyone thinks they're better than everyone else. Everyone talks with a thick accent cause they're all either Italian, Jewish, or Irish decent. They love their cawfee and bagels. They're all pushy and rude.
So in terms of 'most Northern' to 'least Northern?' In terms of most extreme accents, fewest transplants, most Northern culture, cuisine, landscape, etc. Rank them on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being low and 10 being high. Here are the choices
Massachusetts
New York
Virginia
Maryland
Pennsylvania
District of Columbia
Connecticut
New Jersey
Delaware
Rhode Island
Florida (South of Orlando)
I haven't visited all of these, and don't know a whole lot about most of them [except NY, DC, NJ, PA, MD, FL, and VA really] so I'm not really qualified to answer, but was curious about this.
Have fun!!!

Wow, you really believe wrong stereotypes don't you? None of the States you mentioned "fits" your description of what is "Northern". That is like asking everybody to rank states by how Southern they are: you know buck toothed (when they have teeth), incest, uneducated, and where they LOVE their huntin' Dawgs, and shootin' irons. Where everyone talks with a thick accent because they are dumber than a stump.
Before anyone gets their knickers in knots and starts flaming me. No, I do NOT believe those stereotypes of the Southern states. I was just using them as an example of how utterly stupid the OP's choice of what makes a place more "Northern" than another.

...This was the whole point in my post. Threads like this **** which I basically copy and pasted (actually that is what I did)
Will get hundreds and hundreds of replies about some mythical Southern culture. Mention any Stereotypical Northern culture and people cry. Im ****in sick of seeing these "Is Miami Southern?" "Is Texas Southern?" "Is Maryland Southern?" "Whats the most Southern state?" "Where does the South start?"
So I'm being totally serious if those threads can exist so can this one. Why am I rude because I say what the stereotypical view of the North is while nobody is willing to say what the stereotypical view of the South is even though there are so many threads about it. Here is the stereotypical view of the South:
We're all rednecks, we love mudding and hunting and fishing, we care more about football than academics, we hate people of other races, we eat grits and beef jerky and listen to country music, and of course we all hang the confederate flag out our windows and on our pick-up trucks especially while heading over to see a NASCAR race and drink Budweiser...
So you all can make hundreds of posts about which state exemplifies that the most but one thread about Northern stereotypes gets shun. You're right these stereotypes are ridiculous.
I think New York would have to be the most Northern stereotype. Its where the Bagel Culture started. Got creamcheese? I guess number 2 would be either those Irish in Boston or the NYers that moved out to Jersey. Then we'd have to go with Florida (south of Orlando of course because on City Data anything south of Orlando is part of the I-95 corridor). Pennsylvania would be next but its hard to say because I guess we could only talk about Eastern Pennsylvania, Western Pennsylvania is a completely different region just like Florida. I don't really get the Northern Culture vibe in D.C. but its certainly present in Baltimore around John's Hopkins and Towson aka Hebrew University Baltimore.
So what we got so far
1. NY
2. Jersey
3. Boston
4. Florida (south of Orlando)
5. East Penn
6. Maryland
gets a little tougher and as I said I don't know the others as well. I'd imagine Connecticut would probably be next one so
7. Connecticut
Come on someone help me out here where's the most prevalent Northern Culture

Honestly in terms of your criteria your criteria lends itself more to the urban environments so some of the larger states would actually be lower though have pockets of extreme "Northerness" based on your criteria
and unscientific ranking because the states are diverse on this critera
Massachusetts 7 (Boston 9 state 5)
New York 6 (NYC 10 State 3)
Virginia 4 (NOVA 8, VA 2)
Maryland 6 (DC/Balt 8, State 4)
Pennsylvania 5 (Philly 9 State 2)
District of Columbia 9
Connecticut 9
New Jersey 9
Delaware 7
Rhode Island 8
Florida (South of Orlando) 6
But I don't know wouldn't we have to scale the figures because while the less Northern part of NY is larger in area the more Northern part contains much high population. I mean NYC is 8 million people in the actual city (not metro). Rhode Island has 1 million people in the entire state.

On the whole Yes
But you said states - yes 8 million in NYC and 11.5 million who do not live in NYC, if you say metro then ok a little more than half maybe 60% but still on the whole the "STATE" is less Northern based on your citeria than NJ
if you want someone to say Yes NYC is "MOST" Northern in terms of the way people think about this persona etc. - Go have at it (wont argue that) but on the State no
