Is it just me or does anyone else notice the only people defending Charlotte are people from NC/SC/GA?

If you think Charlotte is above average please to me why, I would live to hear it.

Why? There is only arguments going on in this thread because Charlotte homers keep praising their city. I guess Sacramento, Pittsburgh and Milwaukee are above average or amazing too? They are all on the same level.

Houston is a world-class city and home to the energy business. It is not going away - ever. It will only get bigger and stronger.

It has more legitimate theatres than any place except NYC, and it is Texas, which means NO state income tax and a close proximity to beaches, big time sports (3 of the big 4 sports) and fabulous restaurants, great shopping, international cultures and good ol' cowboy stuff.

Charlotte, a very nice city indeed, has built it's economic strength on being a "back Office" city, meaning lots of low pay, clerical and banking jobs processing credit card payments and the like, 2 of the big four sports, and really nice people.

I would be a hard choice for anyone, but if you are looking for explosive economic opportunity, always choose Texas.

I agree. Houston is ahead of Charlotte so far they are really incomparable. Given the choice between these two, all things equal (job, salary, etc), unless a person prefers smaller cities there is absolutely no reason to choose Charlotte over Houston. Everything Charlotte has Houston also has, but Houston has so much Charlotte does not. Houston is honestly one of my favorite cities in the US and I chose it in this poll.

That said, Charlotte is above where many people in this thread are saying it is. For it's size, it has plenty of amenities. Charlotte is no El Paso. It's more of an Orlando, Tampa, or Sacramento.

I really shouldn't even waste my time with people who don't even have an intelligent leg to stand on when it comes to these topics.
If you're going to list Texas as a Deep South state, then you have to list North Carolina as well though.

"Back office" city with low-paying jobs? You do realize that Charlotte is home to the headquarters of BOA and, up until the banking crisis, was home to Wachovia's headquarters too? In addition to the jobs with lower pay, there are lots of higher-paying jobs relative to its headquarters status.

The Deep South is really best characterized as a physiographic region, IMO, in which case it would include parts of NC and TX. But in terms of entire states, Texas is usually included.

No it isn't.

Culturally nor physically has the entire state of Texas been considered as part of the deep south. You'd be hard to find a map that supports your statement as well.
