remember Charley was supposed to Hit Tampa, what happened? Came to orlando. Rita, & Katrina were not supposed to hit the gulf coast beyond the panhandle, they both went to Texas and New orleans. Katrina was not supposed to hit Miami either, but it did before it crossed back in the Gulf. Hurricanes are not trackable over water IMO.

Key word "fairly". The point is, they still cannot predict where a hurricane will make landfall within a couple of miles until its a couple of miles away. So how can they predict where an oil spill is going in over a months time?

No one knows 100% for sure. But the projections give us an idea.

Yeah, but you can't look at them and say, "the oil is going to wash up in Tampa"

"Charles Wayne Consulting, Inc., an Orlando-based research company, reported a 70% year-over-year increase in construction starts for single-family homes in the four counties that make up the Orlando metro area in the first quarter of 2010."

"Medical City, a 600-acre biotech park and hospital complex near Orlando's international airport, is expected to bring more than 7,000 jobs to Orlando in the next few years. Nine different builders, including Hovnanian Enterprises Inc., Beazer Homes USA Inc. and D.R. Horton, have opened new-home communities."

"Home buyers in Orlando aren't likely to be affected much by the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, about 350 miles away, which is already threatening to devastate the tourism and fishing industries and put downward pressure on property values for many Floridians who live and do business near the water."

more relevant culturally? I see Orlando in mainstream popular culture way more than I see Tampa. Orlando was in both American Idol and Americas got talent

Even though I like Orlando, I really think Tampa gets screwed out of a lot of things it should get, like these shows for instance because of Orlando. Tampa is the bigger city in a bigger and more populated metro, so you would think things like American Idol would go to Tampa, but no . When people think of Central Florida, they think of Disney world, and Universal studios, and Seaworld, Thus, they think of Orlando. And thats why producers of shows pass up Tampa and go with Orlando instead . Alwell, atleast they showed Tampa in the video .

To be honest, Tampa and Orlando are more like cousins. People truly do not realize how together these cities work.

Tampa isnt that much bigger. Not enough to make a difference. Orlando is picked over Tampa for things like this because, Its about the same size, its much more popular/well known. and its centrally located in the state, and easy accessible for other people around the state to travel to.

Tampa's Metro has about 700,000 more people so its not exactly the same size. And the "centrally located" point holds little water because American Idol auditions almost always are held in Miami which is pretty out of the way from the rest of the state. But Orlando is more popular because of its attractions. And Its because of the attractions that Tampa gets screwed.
