Oh wow.. a few little towns that happen to be diverse. The demographics I gave are for a community college that covers umpteen different towns..
And besides, is anyone gonna try and refute my accusation of The Bay Area burbs being too expensive or are we just gonna focus on the racial part of my comment?

If I remember correctly, you were talking about "lily white bay suburbia" which simply isn't correct. Maybe in Marin County, but not in the rest of the bay...
If you're just talking about diverse cities, then the bay >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> IL all day every day.

There is no better or worse. There is only what you like and what you don't like.
OP, you haven't given enough criteria for us to even evaluate your preference in setting. Both cities can have affordable and safe areas, both cities have the night life, both cities have everything you dished out to us.
What I want to know is, what are some other things you like? Is natural scenery important? Is public transportation a big factor? Heck even what kind of food you prefer would lead me into the right direction.
So far, I have only seen bias responses because your criteria is too vague to "determine" which one is better for you.

dude are you really comparing the population of some community college to that of multiple cities and acting like it actually means anything?
If you were really familiar with the stats you would know that the Bay Area has many diverse suburbs.
Chicago CSA (pop. 9,723,539)
white alone - 57.0%
black alone - 17.4%
asian alone - 5.1%
latino of any race - 19.2%
native american/alaskan alone - 0.1%
pacific islander/native hawaiian alone - 0.03%
other alone - 0.3%
two or more races - 1.1%
San Francisco CSA (pop. 7,265,739)
white alone - 46.2%
black alone - 6.4%
asian alone - 21.1%
latino of any race - 22.4%
native american/alaskan alone - 0.3%
pacific islander/native hawaiian alone - 0.5%
other alone - 0.4%
two or more races - 2.6%
Chicago vs San Franciso, Oakland, Richmond, ETC I've been trying to figure out which one I would live in.
Which one is better one it comes down to affordability, night life, and diversity.
And really, which one would you rather live in?
Chicago for affordability...they both have night life and diverse...
you need more variables, age, what you do, where you want to live, preference for weather, preference for outdoor stuff, car/no car/etc. etc.
I personally prefer Chicago, I am moving back there...and will keep out here as more of a vacation
BUT, I know plenty of people who would choose bay area in a heartbeat, neither are bad. It is personal preference.
I think if you like outdoor stuff/weather/prefer suburban living/lean left/laid back/california culture you'll lean towards Bay Area.
If you need that *big* city feel/urban living/lean moderate/4 seasons/COL more important, you'll lean Chicago.
Question for OP, have you considered NYC/Boston/Philly?
