-Both cities have significant ports.
-Both cities are about the same size
-Both cities have a similar crime rate
-Both cities need major improvements throughout a lot of their neighborhoods.
-Both cities relied heavily on industry to become what they are today.
-Both cities are among the oldest incorporated cities in the nation
~~
The big differences
-Newark is over 50% Black - Buffalo is over 50% white
-Newark's population density is twice the amount compared to Buffalo, but Buffalo's land mass is twice the size.
-Newark's mass transit is far more superior
-Newark is a part of NYC's MSA when Buffalo is a stand alone city with its own MSA.
I can smell a City Vs City thread between these two cities.

Cities that have a strong connection to each other. It can be derived from similarities as well. Some cities like Chicago and Toronto are very similar which draws a lot to their strong connection to each other as well. The way their businesses are done is a similarity that draws so many people to commute from the two. I honestly couldn't name a better city for Chicago than Toronto. NYC is a bigger version of it, and every other city is smaller (Philadelphia, Boston, etc...) or far more different (LA, Houston, Atlanta, etc..)
Basically this thread would be about taking both of the things you've listed and combining them to establish the city or cities that have the best connection to your city in mind.

Yeah Tucson get's a lot of Midwestern transplants as well, and in some cases "Snow Birds" more than often.
