- How liberally minded an area is? Boston
- How walk-able is the city? Boston
- Best public transportation system? Uh... boy. This is tough to say. I want to go with NYC, but Boston has the same efficiency for it's city size. Draw.
- What is a more dog friendly city? Not a clue. Who cares?
- Higher education opportunities, who has more/better colleges? Boston
- Health care job market, lots of research based hospitals? Probably Chicago, possibly Boston. It's not NYC, though
- The best night-life? NYC
- What city is a more 24 hour city, rather than rolling up the sidewalks? NYC
- Cost friendly for what you can get? None

For what it's worth, Boston's subway is nowhere near New York's...and Chicago's healthcare sector is nowhere near Boston's.

Boston's mass transit system is nowhere close to New York's even for its size. Its headways are pretty bad and night owl service is not so great. NYC also has a really extensive/great bus system that's actually really good (I suspect it has something to do with how many straight thoroughfares that NYC has which makes buses easier to run and predict).

Also, NYC is actually a better contender in terms of the health care job market, especially in terms of research, because it has Columbia, Cornell, NYU, Mount Sinai, Einstein (Yeshiva), Rockefeller, SUNY Downstate Medical Center, and SUNY Optometry.
