Default traveling to ouray colorado

Hi,
i am traveling to ouray colorado with my family from tennessee (with a uhaul truck) can anyone tell me the safest way.

It would depend on your level of comfort driving in the mountains. I believe that the easiest way would be to take 70 to Grand Junction>50 to Montrose >Ouray The other way would be to take 70>285>50 in which case you would have to go over Monarch pass which can be incredibly tricky in the winter. It is a BEAUTIFUL drive though. FYI If you decide to go from Ouray to Durango...the pass that you go over Red Mountain...in my opinion is the worst pass in all of Colorado. The road is narrow and in many cases no guardrails so that the plows can just plow the snow over the edge after the avalanches
