Hispanics in Mentor/Lake County
I continue to be surprised that the north end of Mentor and Mentor-on-the Lake with the abundance of cheap housing has not led to Hispanics moving in in large numbers. I know that Painesville has beomce somewhat of a magnet for illegals and other Hispanics, but has anyone noticed any movement toward Mentor, especially the Headlands and Mentor on the Lake?

I hadn't noticed any movement towards that area. Most of the "hot spots" seem to be the West side of Cleveland and Lorain-Elyria.

How is commenting on demographic changes, which are occurring all over the country, an insult? In just about every other part of the country, new immigrants, legal and illegal, typically enter the housing market in areas just like Mentor-on-the-Lake, with older housing stock and lower prices, and my question, as someone who lives in an area with high immigration, is whether or not this has hit northeast Ohio, as it has in other areas of the country. In Atlanta, the price point for new immigrants seems to be below about $180,000, a price point that North Mentor is way below. I wonder if there is overt racism or some other market force that is keeping diversity out of Mentor?

Please talk on topic and if you really want to discuss illegal immigration, we have a separate forum for that.

the mexicans need to go back to mexico, they cant speak a word of English
and then have the nerve to give us dirty looks when we cant understand
them. They all need to be deported back to Mexico. Most I am sure dont
have a green card anyway. I dont know why the police dont go down to
the Painesvillle park on Sundays when they all gather to play softball and
arrest all of them!!!!!

Maybe you should just consider learning spanish regardless? Americans are so ignorant in that aspect - the fact most only know one language is incredible. Travel the world and be amazed at how many languages foreigners know.

I agree; if you come to this country you should be required to speak English. I think knowing many languages is a great thing, and certainly wish I could speak more, but it is ridiculous for any immigrant of any nationality to come to this country and expect us to learn their language.
