Geneva and Conneaut are neighbors. Conneaut has a nicer beach, Geneva has the cool little boardwalk area. I beleive Geneva will have more lodging options... it's a bit more touristy.

I was going to recommend, Geneva-on-the-Lake, Conneaut, Saybrook, Astabula Harbor, etc in that area. Our friends have a cottage in Saybrook with a private beach, we loved visiting up there and it's a short drive to Geneva. If you're going to head up that way i would recommend stopping in Jamestown, Pa/Pymatuning to see Deer Park and feed the fish in Linesville.

Welcome to Pymatuning Deer Park - Jamestown, PA

Pennsylvania State Parks - Pymatuning - PA DCNR

Where the Ducks Walk on the Fish, Linesville, Pennsylvania

::Welcome to Conneaut Lake Park :: Where the Past Becomes the Future:: Not sure how nice this place is still, but it's fun for little kids and they do have a beach, lazy river, kiddy pool and water slides.

Conneaut is not a tourist area and does not have seasonal rentals. It has the best beach of the neighboring towns in Ashtabula County, but it will be very much locals. There are no shops, restaurants, etc. that cater to tourists.

If you want to rent a cottage go to Geneva-on-the-Lake. It is the tourist town around that area, although it does not have much of a beach. It's more retro style with little shops, bars, kids activities, a winery, and some other things. It has Jersey Shore type places but they are not lined up on a boardwalk. A lot of bikers also hang out there.

Actually, if you just want to find a good beach to chill at that is quiet you should go to Presque Isle in Erie.

Many people go to Put-in-Bay and Kelly's Island. Kelly's Island is quiet with not much to do but camp and fish. Put-in-Bay is an actual town with a party atmosphere.

That is not the same Conneaut.

As 5Lakes said, Stay in/near Geneva-on-the-lake and hang out at the Conneaut beach. No there aren't many tourist restaraunts in Conneaut. That's a good thing.

Presque Isle is a good call, too. Didn't think of that.

I know it's not the same, i was just suggesting some places to stop along the way with the kids; Deer Park, Conneaut Lake Park, and the fish at Linesville are all in the same general area.
