I will also add it is NOT all about the weather. I live in FL for years and prefered Cleveland.

Thumbs down Cleveland is a depressing place to live.

Between the dreary cold weather, the government corruption, street potholes, the high cost of utilities, and the high taxes, Cleveland is a depressing place to live. Can't wait to get out.

Well I generally am not thrilled about Cleveland, but coming from a large city, it's expected.

Cons:
-numerous, gigantic potholes and large rocks from these litter certain roads and the solution to fix these are to place a orange cone in the middle of the lane... 2 cones if they are really concerned. Glad to see my tax dollars at work.
-the snow is not as bad... it's the clean up crews. Generally they seem to have a "wait until the storm is over and then we'll go clean up... in the mean time send out a truck to drive by the local news crew to show we are doing something" attitude. Basically if you want to get anywhere safely here in the winter, you need awd/4wd and blizzaks. There is something wrong with the road crews when a major friggin' hwy has as much snow on it as my driveway in the morning.
-general layout of the city- the east side is bordered by 4 major hwys. If you want to go from somewhere downtown to say whole foods, you have two options- either take the hwy which takes forever or slum through miles and miles of stop & go local roads which takes forever as well. Pick your poison.
-ridiculous intersections with 3, 4 roads all making S curves and lanes where you can turn 25degrees to the left, 36 degrees to the left and 45 degrees to the left.
-feels like police put more effort into catching speeders than violent criminals
-lousy market to sell real estate
-not as diverse as my last city
-everything is spread out
-taxes- first time I've ever been asked to start paying for next year's taxes NOW, property taxes in some areas

Pros
-cost of living is cheap, laughably cheap. My standard of living went way, way up since I moved here.
-great place to buy real estate
-health care- there's a hospital every 10 miles as you drive around the city
-close to chicago, niagara falls, toronto
-pro sports teams with affordable tickets
-westside market
-cheap to go out for drinks
-my job is here

I'm here for a job, if I could move, I probably would, but my gf is here so that makes it a bit tough. If I was on my own or could move freely, I'd probably move.

Me and my husband are actually looking to move. I live in Brunswick but work in Cleveland, and it royally sucks driving an hour there and an hour back everyday. With the weather issues and the crime problems surrounding Downtown, we can't wait to leave. Brunswick is nice, but way too boring, so you almost have to go to Cleveland just to have fun.

Quick question: So, then, why do you live in Brunswick? There are many suburbs that are nicer and much more convenient than Brunstucky. It's a county away.

I have a friend who lives in the 'tuck who sounds just like you. His only "reason" for living there is a 1% lower sales tax (even though 90% of the stores he shops at are in Strongsville/Cuyahoga County)... but never mind the extra 3-4 gallons of gas it takes to go to work every day.

But it's very convenient, I don't ever have to drive past Strongsville because everything is right there. North Royalton and Middleburg Hts are about the same; Middleburg Hts has a lot of stores and restaurants also.
Is it just me, or do these two posts contradict each other?

Wow you guys have way too much time on your hands. I cannot believe I try to go on here to talk with other people and you research my posts. Go find a hobby or something, jesus. I like living in Brunswick for the schools and the low crime rates, but it is way too boring for someone my age. It is a great town for families and older couples. I'm leaving because of the commute for the type of job I have and for the weather issues. I'm sorry that I have a mixed opinion about something.

Hey, sometimes you do what you gotta do when you're trying to sell your house, right?

Seriously though, as far as a place for raising a family goes, I think Brunswick is a nice area despite the "Brunstucky" label, but the downtown commute is kind of brutal (my wife did it for several years from adjacent communities).
