The only reason why I can think of why is because there are so many people that live here that do not know what they have or they take it for granted. Plus, the grass is always greener.

As for myself, I love Cleveland and everything it has to offer. There is so much to do on any given weekend. Most of the people that you encounter in here are "down to earth" nice, friendly people. Sure, Cleveland has its problems, but all major cities of Cleveland's size do. I will not be leaving Cleveland unless I get a job opportunity that I cannot pass up.

The economy was hit hard here just as it was everywhere else. The unemployment on the other hand in Cleveland is lower than the national average. While Cleveland is beginning to diversify its economy, there are still quite a bit of manufacturing jobs in the region. (Not nearly as much as say, 20-30 years ago, and there are a lot of unemployed people who had recently worked in these fields). Manufacturing is making somewhat of a comeback in the region though, as Cleveland leads the nation in Manufacturing job growth http://www.city-data.com/forum/cleve...ring-jobs.html.

Cost of living - You will have a hard time finding a lower cost of living than Cleveland.

If you decide to comeback, I would make sure that you have a job lined up before you move back. It is not impossible to get a job in the area, there are companies hiring, but it is a competitive job market right now.
I agree with this 100%...I live in Washinton state next to idaho...I work in Idaho and this town is so racist, it's pityful....My husband who has been here all of his life is ready to leave because of how I've been treated...I was born and raised in Cleveland and never, EVER experinced any racism, until I came to this side of the country...My family is back in cleveland and we are moving back there in the summer of 2011...I never realized how much I missed a place until I left...my children are mixed and they will love the diversity and the many friends they will make..They don't really like it here...

Hope no one feels I'm changing the subject ...
I'm VERY new here so ....
I have started to live downtown (no car). I am used to shopping centers whether in the suburbs (which I thought would be no problems because of the reported wonderful transportation system) or downtown. I do like department stores ... where are they?

Where Downtown?
Tower City is a suburban style shopping mall downtown.
You can also take a bus to just about any mall out in the suburbs.
Just two off the top of my head, the 75 would take you to North Olmsted's mall with no transfer. Roughly 30-40 minutes and it drops you off right in front of the strip part of that mall. The 25 or the 22 I believe runs down Center Ridge and will drop you off in front of Rocky River's outdoor mall.

Our pub transit system is really geared towards getting downtown but you can still find many buses that will get you to the suburbs.

I was 11 at the time and now I'm 30. I have tons of family in Cleveland and I've been thinking about moving back. I'm starting to hate it here in Florida. Tired of the heat, it's getting boring and I want to go back home. I miss it. Need a change. I've talked to my family up there about moving back and what Cleveland is like now. I'm getting mixed answers. Some say it sucks, environment, people, living and they want to move out of Cleveland. And some say its awesome there and they still love it.

So my questions are:
What do you think about Cleveland? Is it worth coming back?
How is the job market? I'd like to be in some kind of manufacturing or similar.
What is the cost of living there?

And any other things you can say about it would be appreciated. Thank you.
Cleveland is turning around. But depending on where you are at in Florida it might not have the same energy. Do you have a job lined up, or are you going to crash with your family until your situation improves? It might take a while to find a job in Cleveland.

Hello!

One thing I will say, Cleveland has so much going on that most Clevelander's have no idea. Unfortunately, those who think Cleveland suck, aren't familiar of all the growth, positivity, enconomic development, movies being filmed here as we speak, restaurants booming all over the place, two fabulous casinos under development, re-development of the east bank & west bank of the flats, etc... When I speak of Cleveland, this includes all of northeast Ohio. On August 3rd Bloomberg rated Cleveland #1 biggest job market in Tech jobs, the medical industry in Cleveland is one of the best in the world, and so much more... Monsterjobs.com recently rated Cleveland #3 best place to come and find a great job. Don't listen to other people's synopsis. Read for yourself (I read all the time). A lot is going on here... Get in now, before everyone gets hip to what's going on. Just make sure you have a job already lined up, before making any moves. Realistically, that goes for any city you chose to live.

If you decide to come back to C-Town, I wish you well, and bring all that positivity with you! We need more native Clevelanders with a positive and realistic mind-set!

Looks like I'll be moving back to Cleveland the 2nd week of next month! I'm totally excited and a bit nervous. It'll be an new adventure for me. I do have a few jobs lined up when I get there. I'll be living with family for awhile till I get my own place. I do keep up to date with what is going on in Cleveland with all the construction happening around especially in the downtown area and new businesses popping up. My dad says that I know more about Cleveland than he does and he's been there all his life. Haha. I love Cleveland and love all the positive things happening to it. I can't wait to come back to my hometown! Hopefully when I get there some of us can meet up and I can make some new friends.
