Interesting read...despite all these facts and figures provided (thank you by the way) I am still not convinced. I totally agree with the OP on this, perhaps it is my demographic (under 40) that are the most frustrated with this city.

Personally I miss basic stuff...like the SUN and sky (not the cities fault) which you can almost forget they exist (Nov-May). Don't you all worry though I'm one of the negative naysayers who will be leaving once I finish my degree work here and figure out what to do with my house.

I am so tired of that lame shot at Cleveland. The sun is out quite a bit during the winter. This winter has been particularly sunny. Maybe if you go outside you'd notice?

Come on now, lets be real, Cleveland is one of the more cloudy places on this planet. It's not good, its not bad, its just true. I'm looking out my window right now at a white ground and grey sky.

Denial is another issue here...as well as obtuse accusations of being recluse. Talk about lame shots.

And this is coming from a born and bred Clevelander...

LOL---to paraphrase an old saying, you came to Cleveland, you saw Cleveland, and you wound up not liking Cleveland, so once your degree work s done, and you come up with a viable solution for your house, you're gonna leave Cleveland...and I for one am not mad at you...

Even though I love Cleveland, and by association Ohio, I have come to realize that it isn't for everyone, and I have basically stopped wishing ill will and curses upon those who are leaving...

But now to that 'one thing' I mentioned---people who LOVE Cleveland, by rote, are gonna DEFEND Cleveland...now, that doesn't make them crazy, nor does that place them in that famed Egyptian river (you know...De Nile LOL)...Cleveland (to these 50-something eyes anyhoo) has a lot of things about it to love...I won't clog this post by listing 'em, but you get my drift...
and by the same token, there are folks like yourself who can't wait to put it in your rear-view mirror, and that doesn't make YOU Petey Wheatstraw, the Devil's Son-in Law, either...you just came here, wound up not liking it, and you have plans to leave---and that stuff happens every day, all across the country

My only beef, though, is when you (and others) use the word 'denial', as if love of Cleveland is like some terminal malady...yeah, it has its warts, and the winters can be a booger-bear sometimes, but I think the positives far outweigh the negatives...all I'm saying is it's OK that you don't like it here, and it's also OK for you to say that...but don't always accuse those who live here and like it of being in 'denial'---just as you have the right to say 'I can't WAIT to leave!', they in turn have the right to like where they live without constant accusations of being in denial, and questions about their mental state

I just think people have very short memories. Yes it is cloudy right now. And yesterday it was partly cloudy. Which also means partly sunny.
The 2 days before that it was SUNNY. There have been many sunshiney days this winter. More then cloudy so far, I can guarantee that. I have been paying close attention because I am tried of this sorry old slam.
But all everyone remembers is CLOUDS.....

Jily: Notice the smiley face at the end of my comment??? Generally when I do that it means I am trying to be funny. Not rude. Comic relief.

I have not read all the posts, so forgive me if I repeat. I just moved from NE Ohio after 40 years in the Cleveland area, and although Cleveland has a lot of potential, it has lacked energetic and young progressive ideas. Chicago and Milwaukee have successfully used their lakefronts to good advantage, while those in charge in Cleveland have consistently failed to do so.
IMO, too many years of Democrats micromanaging and killing incentive, and a union mentality.

I was referring to the weather...
You can't deny the weather is a "booger-bear" - that's all I'm saying and you don't have to go outside to know this.

How you view a place is all in your perspective, I get that.

I apologize if I came off rude Peregine, that is never my intention.

I am just a sun lover so I notice too, when visiting warmer states out west or south the way the sun shines is clearly different- my observation.

I'm in your demographic and I'm not frustrated with it at all. Maybe you're just frustrated with yourself.

Why are you even here at all? Can't you do your "degree work" somewhere else? Surely there's a sunnier place where you could have gone to do whatever it is that you're doing, no?
