My partner and I will be moving to the Cleveland area sometime this summer. He will be attending the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, which as I understand it is in Independence, OH. We are looking for an apartment a reasonably close distance to the school and to public transit lines (whether bus or rail). The problem I am running into is this: some of the apartment search websites I've used seem to be using the college's OLD address in the University Circle area of Cleveland, not the new address in the suburbs...this is skewing things. Also, when using the college's new zip code in searches, most of the results turn up in places like Shaker Heights, Lakewood, Parma, and so forth. I have only visited the area once and am not very familiar with the other suburbs close by.

Does anyone have recommendations for apartments near the college's new location in Independence? We have no children, so public schools are not a concern. I am a librarian and will be attempting to find a job in the area prior to moving. Rent hopefully will be on the lower end (currently we pay about $720/mo.).

Do you have a car? Getting around this area is difficult without one. Reasonably close to this College you have Old Brooklyn for low cost apartments or duplexes. You might be able to venture into the Brecksville/Broadview Hts area. Parma is nearby and a nice city. Shaker and Lakewood are farther but doable. I made the commute from both of those cities into Independence for 3 years each, but you need a car. You are going to get stuck one way or another with the public transportation thing. This college is in a spot where having a car makes sense, in my opinion anyway. Maybe there is somebody who can really help you out with bus routes on this board.

By using google maps and "public transportation directions" , coming from Downtown, it's a straight shot on the 77F bus.

The best answer seems to be either Tremont or Old Brooklyn neighborhoods. Both you can take the 35 Bus and get dropped off even closer than the 77F.

Here's also the public transportation website: Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority Independence is a little more difficult to get to since it's suburban.

The more I think about it, loving along the 35 bus line would be your best option. This includes Old Brooklyn and Ohio City as my top two:
