I was born and raised in Cleveland and have been out west for years. It is not the same out here as far as relationships. The friends you make in Cleveland have the potential to be life long friends. Some how the west coast is missing this. I agree with the "salt of the earth" comment. Good Luck!

YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD!!!!! The west coast is extremely clicky...the people are totally different on the west coast, even out here in Idaho and Washington state....THe east coast is more friendly, harder working class of people.....

I visited a friend in Cleveland last summer. I found the people I met to be friendly and genuine. I plan to move to Cleveland next fall if all goes well.

Bland huh? Best orchestra in the world, one of the top are museums concentrated in one of the most culturaly diverse areas in the United States, 2nd biggest theatre seating district in the U.S., great restaurant scene, the three big major sports (despite their woes), 2nd biggest urban park system in the United States after NYC, Rock 'n' Roll HOF (you either love it or hate it I guess...) great science museum. Downtown seems to get quiet in the evening, but there are more places to go than that. Bland is the last way I would describe Cleveland, and it is most certainly more happening than Scottsdale... Which brings me to another point. I am so sick of hearing people talk about how "cool" Columbus is, the least metropolitan city in Ohio (out of the biggest 3, it has a leg up on Dayton).

I live in Cleveland and i think that the people in California is super nice compared to the people in Cleveland. I think that people here are more "fake." they will be nice to your face and turn around and make up rumors about you. Also I have noticed that in that people in Cleveland are not always true friends. When i was in California i thought that people there where true friends and would stick by you, I don't think you will find that in Cleveland. Cleveland is more or a like it or hate it city. you can either make friends or just find people to talk to.

The people are o.k. until winter comes. Then it's pretty depressing and gloomy.

People are people. You like some, you dislike others. Some people have amazing experiences here with the local population, others probably hate it. A lot of it depends on your own personal situation, attitudes, beliefs, demeanor, etc. If you abide by the golden rule, you'll probably be fine wherever you go!

After living around the Toledo/Detroit corridor, I must say Clevelanders have reminded me that yes, there are people that DO have a sense of hospitality and manners. Working downtown, I've been around the haves to the point of being around the Steelyard Commons Wal-Mart barely haves and I haven't truly encountered that grime and gruff attitude from both scales on the income brackets. Even in my living area of Edgewater, in passing, people will at least make eye contact and greet. Just those little things make or break one's impression of the citizens of a city.

Many exurbanites around Cleveland are a little to socially conservative for me, then again, we are talking Ohio.

Urbanites are my kinda people!

Clevelanders have a great sense of humor, very realistic, self-deprecating, etc.

I have the negativity. Clevelanders can be very negative people IMO.

I have found Clevelanders to be some of the nicest people in the US. To refer back to something I posted in another thread, the thing that I miss most about NE Ohio is the people - solid, hard working, sports crazy, friendly, genuine, slow driving, people, with that good old Cleveland accent (yes, those of us from Cleveland do have an accent, although I couldn't recognize it until I moved away!).
