I'm considering moving to Lakewood with my boyfriend. I drive; he doesn't. If we lived in Lakewood, would it be possible for him to get around within the city, whether it's by walking, biking, or the bus, to places like grocery stores, drugstores, and other locations? Or is that not very realistic? Are there certain parts of the city that would be more feasible for this than other parts?
Thanks.

Actually living in Lakewood without a car is very realistic. Everything is accesible from groceries, night life, Even transportation (RTA station). Depending on where you live in Lakewood, the winters might be difficult, since riding your bike won't work. I would try to live in the center of Lakewood around Warren road. Obviously you can go in either direction but in my opinion Warren is sort of the center of Lakewood.

So it's very realistic in my opinion to get around Lakewood without a car.... it's a beautiful city with lots to do (within walking distance) Housing is affordable.

Hopefully that helped alittle. Good luck.

Agree with Andrem. I would suggest loking for a place close to Madison or Detroit. Those 2 major roads are serviced well by RTA Buses.

I have a rental available 3 houses from Madison Road!

It is doable. We live in Cleveland near W.117th and Lorain and we have the same situation. I drive and my husband doesn't. We considered Lakewood but wanted to be a little closer to downtown and to a rapid stop. The bus on Detroit runs frequently. There is a bus on Madison but I don't think it runs that much. You can check with RTA. Also, being withing walking distance to a rapid stop is a big plus.

When I lived in Lakewood, the car pretty much remained parked. We would walk to church, the grocery, doctors appointments and the like.

The worst part of Lakewood without a car are the "stock up" trips to the market - the types of trips when you have five or six bags. But if you have a car in teh household, you can get over that.

Yeah, don't need a car in Lakewood. The only time I use a car is if I am out really late at night or going out to places around Cleveland without good public transit.

Stocking up at stores can be a problem but you can get creative... buying a personal cart, backpack, or doing light shopping a few times a week.

Just do shopping on your return trips from wherever else you find yourself to spread carrying goods out. On that note, the east side of Lakewood has access to an RTA station which means you have the most dense city between DC and Chicago at your disposal as well as downtown Cleveland within a short train ride away.
