Cleveland Aquarium Opening in December
September 12, 2011

Add yet another item to your “things to do in Cleveland” list. The first phase of the new Cleveland Aquarium, previously set to open in the fall, is now on schedule to open in December of 2011. It is currently being built in the Powerhouse building on the west bank of the flats, and will serve as yet another attraction bringing people into the heart of the city.
The main attraction will be the Sea Tube, a long underwater tunnel made of see-through glass offering an up close view of sea life – including sharks. When complete the aquarium will feature 70,000 square feet of exhibits, many educational and hands on. It will also host a restaurant and banquet facilities for special events. I wonder if they’ll open up the Sea Tube for small wedding parties.
The new Cleveland Aquarium will fill a void left when the aquarium at Gordon Park closed in 1985. Until now, the only one in town was at the Cleveland Zoo. The zoo exhibit is nice, but small. The new aquarium is huge, family oriented and will make a great tourist attraction for people visiting our city. Along with the East Bank development, the new casino and the medical mart the Cleveland Aquarium is going to play a vital role in attracting people downtown to both live and visit. They’re hoping to attract as many as 500,000 people a year, generating around 40 jobs.

No! this is not allowed. Cleveland is not allowed to build anything new and may benefit the city. This is Outrageous!. Get rid of Kasich it's his fault, he is giving money to the people who built this aquarium he's giving OUR tax dollars to them.

Sorry I had too. I just wanted to be like those who just complain about the city.

This is good for Cleveland and downtown, hopefully it pans out and people visit the aquarium.

^ this is only Phase I too.

If Phase II is built, it'll be over twice as large.

Kasich had absolutely nothing to do with this, don't give him credit. It was our city, not state leaders who were responsible, and the project was put into motion before Kasich took office.

Clippers-

Cleveland will exist and attempt to thrive despite Kasich and his S. Oh. redneck contingent. He deserves none of the credit for ANY of the current happenings and developments in our city to date. As a matter of fact, name one thing he has done to actually encourage businesses to move here or pretty much elsewhere in OH in the 9 months he has been in office? All the rest of us see him doing is throwing away federal grants, attacking public sector workers, and throwing big money (and, your money at that) at resident corporations whenever they so much as flinch.

I love coming to the Ohio forum because you guys make so much sense. 6 months.

I'm going to scope out some neighborhoods tomorrow. Checking out Little Italy and the east side of Lakewood before dipping to Pittsburgh for the night

Wow! I heard about the Phase II aquarium! How big did they say that'll be? I was reading the aquarium is going to be 70,000 sq. ft. I'm wondering much larger will Phase II be?

The entire first half of my post was complete sarcasmn. I was just stating the typical complaints made by some about the city. I didn't mean it literally.

Right.

Just remember they didn't happen with the other guy either.

On a side note I wasn't giving Kasich credit for anything, I was being sarcastic. I was just stating the typical excuses given by the small minority of clevelanders that don't like anything new in this city.
