Default Moving to Ohio City

My friend and I are looking at moving to Ohio City.I have been there once around the bar area, West 25th I believe? But I was wondering how safe it really is, we are two girls in our early 20's. The night I was there it seemed perfectly safe but then again that was just in that little area. I am also looking for suggestions on where actually to live, would you recommend renting a house, or are there any good apartment complexes in the area? Thanks for the help!

Sorry, I don't have much to offer in terms of advice, but I just wanted to mention that I love Ohio city. It's one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city.

Good luck, hopefully someone who lives there/has lived there can give some actual advice.

I'll add that the area is becoming better almost every couple of months. Check out this link from UrbanOhio that has a list of all the new additions for this year!

Cleveland: Ohio City & Market District Developments

All I know is Ohio City has good parts and bad parts. My instincts tell me the good parts are towards the Great Lakes Brewery and Westside Market.

Pay for some more the higher end apartment complexes, it will be worth it. While it might be improving, make no mistake about it, Ohio City can still be a pretty rough area. Go to the area you are thinking about renting or buying on like a Friday or Saturday night around 10pm to see what it's like. It really does change from block to block, so it's impossible to say without knowing your specific address. West Side Market is totally awesome, by the way.

That's the thing about Ohio City, it's extremely different from block to block. No matter which area you pick, I would advise to check it out at different times of the day. Late on the weekend is a good idea, but what is it like on a weeknight? What is it like on a day that the Market isn't open?

Also, another thing to consider: If you're interested in W. 25th, it's going to be noisy. There are all those bars and all that traffic on Market days.

With that said, it would be an exciting place to live. It feels as if every week, a new business is opening there. There's so much good stuff going on over there!

as mentioned above, each block of ohio city has a different feel, and some feel safer than others. it can be a bit gritty, but if you like the "market square" area, then i'm sure that you'll be fine. along west 25th street, there's some nice lofts, i've looked at a few, not my style, but maybe could work for you girls.

people tend to stay NOLO (north of lorain) as compared to SOLO (south of lorain) when looking for a safe neighborhood. the "nicest" part of ohio city IMO would be Franklin Circle: the area around fulton, lorain and west 25th. its directly "behind" west 25th street, and has some quaint, quieter streets

NOLO? No one in Cleveland talks like that.

Huh? I thought Franklin Circle was the area where Franklin, Fulton, and West 28th Street come together.

I grew up in Ohio City, so I should know.

Depends. If you like renovations there are some lovely Victorian houses. There a bunch of condos in the area. All different price ranges. Some are right off of w.25 then some near Gordon Square. If you google search cleveland condos then it should pop up some websites.
