Default Asian population?

Hey guys,

I was wondering where is the East Asian population in or around Cleveland?

Are there any "Chinatown" or "Koreantown" over there?

Thanks

There is an actual Chinatown in Cleveland, such as it is, on Rockwell Avenue in the East 20s... but it's so small and tucked away that you could easily live your entire life in Cleveland and never realize it was there.

Here's a recent article on some new happenings in that area:

Cleveland's defunct Chinatown on Rockwell Avenue getting new life with plans for 5 restaurants

Other than that, there is the larger Asiatown area in that same general part of town that costello_musicman already posted about.

I have heard that there is a small Korean area somewhere in Cleveland's Old Brooklyn neighborhood, but I don't know specifics. Anyone else have any info on that?

Asians in Cleveland? Rare.

The Chinatown is like 1 underdeveloped plaza- I went to Asiatown there a few times to eat with friends. OK, that's where you can see Asian people.

I see Asians all over the place. Check out University Circle, Westside neighborhoods, and of course the suburbs.

Also, here's a map of the city of Cleveland 2010 census Asian numbers. Looks like Asiatown and University Circle:

I know that the Near West Side of Cleveland had a pretty sizeable Vietnamese community back when I was growing up (1970s). And I knew a decent, if not huge, number of Asian students when I went to West Tech High School.

I imagine that since those years Cleveland's Asian population has only increased, if anything.

According to the US Census 2010 there are 47,907 Asians living in the Cleveland metro area which is a very small population.

That still adds up to 2-3% for Cleveland metro area, considering the metro is 2 million (MSA, CSA would be 2.8 with Akron area).

Your on the west coast of North America. Asian populations are pretty small in midwestern cities. Even the city of Chicago is only about 5-7% Asian.
