I'm in the process of purchasing my first home in the Westpark area. I've never shopped for carpeting before and was wondering if anyone had recommendations or experience with some of the local carpet dealers. How on earth do you know if you're getting a good deal? Lowe's and Home Depot seem to have good installation deals, but I'm wondering about the quality of the work from the big box stores.

Thanks in advance!

In the same boat and in the process as we speak although I am many steps ahead. Remember to pay attention to price per square YARD vs square FOOT which is 9 times difference. Even with the horror stories...the best (BY FAR) quote I have received was from Empire Carpet (large national company). I've had all the local guys including The Calvetta Bros. come out to give me a quote. The best local prices I've gotten were from Regal carpet and the really small place in Parma called Truly carpet (I found them on craigslist). I don't give ANYBODY that don't list prices until they come out to measure at a FEE a chance and that includes places like Carpet Capitol Cleveland. I have researched and researched and everyone says to go local vs Home Depot/Lowes. They have good INITIAL prices but tag on for EVERYTHING. They also subcontract the install which can cause a lot of headache. In the end...I will probably end up going with Regal or Truly carpet. I'll let you know how it goes. Til then good luck.

P.s. Remember to NEGOTIATE no matter who you go with.

We just had Empire install some flooring in our kitchen. They also subcontract the install but Empire back everything they do. The installers were good, the salesman was too.
They should have charged us for extra work they did but they DID NOT. Would have been happy to pay it.
