We live in Colorado and we lock our doors. We have several neighbors who have been broken into.

And don't get me going about plowing! The snow removal here is abysmal! If there is a small storm, it's no big deal; it's like lcinva says, it's light, it melts in 2-3 days max, and very little snow removal is needed. However, in a situation like the blizzards of last winter, some people waited weeks to see a snowplow in their neighborhood, including some major areas like around the University of Denver where my DD lives. Former Mayor Pena almost got recalled one year b/c he couldn't get the streets plowed. (Then Clinton appointed him Secretary of Transportation, LOL!)

There are many reasons to like Denver, but it's not crime-free and the snow removal is not the best, to say the least.

My parents live in Colorado. They don't lock their doors, and haven't been broken into once. They are not an anomaly.

Any city that is in the top 5 most dangerous cities in the United States, by default, is NOT SAFE! I don't care if it's the suburbs; it's not like there is a physical boundary keeping out the 85 (are we up to 86?) murderers a year out of the suburbs. Any place with as rampant poverty as Cleveland will NOT be safe until there are more jobs and the economy is better.

I would also like to dispute your comments on blizzards. In the last year, twice I was not able to get out of my driveway b/c of 1foot and greater snow. The roads were terrible; another examples of my taxes "hard at work". hahaha.

In Colorado, it snows lightly, and then it's sunny...and it melts. Imagine that! The plowmen are actually plowing, because if not people can't go skiing, and that's their whole economy.

There was gross black snow on the ground for 3-4 weeks at a time this last winter.

Cleveland Clinic is Cleveland's only redeeming feature. And even they want to get out! Have you heard the news? They want to drop their association with CWRU to partner with Columbia University. I wonder why that is? Cleveland's hometown school isn't good enough? Surprise surprise.

For anyone considering moving here, besides subjective (I suppose) things like crime and weather -

You cannot dispute the OUTRAGEOUS taxes.
See I was just going by my experiences,I lived in the snowbelt in Euclid and never experienced a blizzard,I've already experienced 3 blizzards in Colorado Springs, and the snow didn't melt right away where I live in Colorado.Like I siad in my last post it depends on the person what kind of area thier going to like, and different people have different expereinces. Also how is Cleveland's metro not safe.In 2005 between Bay Village,Bedford,Bedford Heights,Berea,Brecksville,Broadview Heights,Brook Park,Brooklyn,Brooklyn Heights,Cleveland Heights,East Cleveland,Euclid,Garfield Heights,Gate Mills,Highland Heights,Highland Hills,Hunting Valley,Lakewood,Lyndhurst,Mayfield Heights,North Randall,North Royalton,Olmsted Falls,Parma,Parma Heights,Seven Hills,Shaker Heights,Solon,South Euclid,Strongsville,University Heights,Walton Hills,Warrensville Heights,Westlake,Chardon,Middlefield,South Russel,Eastlake,Fairport Harbor,Kirtland,Kirtland Hills,Mentor,Mentor-on-the-Lake,Waite Hill,Willoughby,Willowick,Amherst,Avon,Lorain,Nort h Ridgeville,Sheffield Lake,Vermillion,Creston,Seville,Wadsworth there was only 14 homicides, those places had a population of over 900,000 and they had only 14 homicides. And every crime statistic is down this year in Cleveland too, except homicides,so the crime rate will be down for Cleveland.Im not saying that the city of Cleveland is not dangerous, but the metropolitan area is not dangerous,it wasn't in the top 25 most dangerous metros. Now granted theres going to be some crime in the suburbs, but there isn't that much crime in Clevelands suburbs.Theres many cities that have it much worse in the crime category in thier metros,Cleveland doesn't have it bad at all.And I live in Colorado right now and theres house break ins here too, there not only confined to Cleveland.

WOW. I better inform my wife that the Cleveland Clinic is leaving Cleveland. Maybe they can move to Colorado and be the Colorado Clinic.

You never experienced a blizzard in the snowbelt of the Cleveland area? You have got to be kidding! What kind of rosy glasses are you wearing? Cause I want a pair. Sounds like you need a reality check.

I have a similar thread in the Denver forum. As far as crime and Cleveland and especially Cleveland Heights is concern. It is overrated.

I use to be the law clerk in Cleveland Heights and I will tell you as the one that you to prosecute the case, the top 3 crimes in cleveland heights 1) Driving under suspension, 2) Domestic violence 3) petty theft (mostly from severance). Yes, cleveland heights has its problems because of absentee landlords, section 8, and teenagers, but every street south of cedar (except for the streets by the high school) are excellent areas.

Yes, the school system is not that great, but at the same time it is also one of the best in the state. If you child is smart and well behaved, Cleveland Heights High School honors program is outstanding and no I did not go there. They have several students each year who go to princeton, nyu, stanford, etc...... Or you could send the children to one of the several private schools that are in the area for $3,000 - 15,000 a year.

Also, there is no city in Northeast Ohio that is as diverse as Cleveland Heights. Blacks, whites, wealthy, middle class, poor, gay, straight, hippies, yuppies, catholic, jewish, etc... Shaker Heights is not even close.

However, Cleveland Heights taxes and housing inspection are terrible. Also, Cleveland Heights is starting to become like many other cities and building all those stupid "townhomes."

Also, Cleveland's downtown is not bad. I was there tonight at midnight and everyone was walking downtown and at public square. I would like to see a major city that is crime-free. Murders, robberies, and other crimes happen everywhere, but Cleveland's downtown/public square is extremely safe day or night. I was shocked to learn that it was rated as one of the most dangerous cities, because it is not.

Sorry if I seem like I am venting, but I hate the bad rep Cleveland Heights gets. My girlfriend who lives in Lakewood feels that it dangerous here. But Lakewood actually has more armed robberies than Cleveland Heights.

If I could ask one question? What areas in Denver resembles the east-side of Cleveland, specifically Cleveland Heights. Is there a suburb that is also very diverse?

For the record, the one suburb I do recommend over Cleveland Heights is Beachwood. Best school system in the state, lower taxes, beautiful homes, great location with Legacy, Beachwood place, Eaton place all nearby, and highway access!!!!

Nothing will resemble Cleveland Hts physically. Aurora is very diverse. Most of the northern and western suburbs have a fair number of Hispanic residents. I am not familiar with the southern suburbs.

I lived in Euclid Ohio, and I never expereinced a blizzard while living there.I know what I see.How rude, someone trying to tell me what I've seen.I don't need a reality check,If I had seen a blizzard when I was living in Euclid I surely would have remembered it.I like the Greater Cleveland area,Euclid is my hometown, and I like almost everything about the area.If you don't like the Cleveland area xwideopenskyx, than thats you,but I happen to like the area a whole lot.Where I lived in Ohio we got alot of snow in some years, but I never experienced a blizzard there.

Here is a definition of a blizzard from dictionary.com just in case you're confused:
bliz·zard /ˈblɪzərd/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[bliz-erd] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun 1.Meteorology. a.a storm with dry, driving snow, strong winds, and intense cold. b.a heavy and prolonged snowstorm covering a wide area. 2.an inordinately large amount all at one time; a blizzard of Christmas cards. –verb (used without object) 3.to snow as a blizzard: Looks as though it's going to blizzard tonight.

You're the only Clevelander who has never seen one of those, where have you been? Just curious if Cleveland rocks? Why are you in Colorado? Shouldn't you be home cheering the Indians on?

Well if thats the definition of a blizzard, than yeah I guess I've been through tons of blizzards,in Ohio and Colorado, still the strongest snow storms I've ever seen were in Colorado.Im not in Cleveland right now because I unfortunatly didn't have a choice if I wanted to stay in Cleveland,if I did have the choice I would've stayed there, but Im moving back to Cleveland in 8 months.Believe me Im out in Colorado cheering on the Indians,Browns, and Cavs.
