The casinos are going to generate income for the city and the state, that's for sure. No need to leave the state to gamble anymore.
(Notice lately the neighboring states casinos are advertising like crazy now? They know that their business is about to take a BIG hit....)
But anyone claiming that one thing is going to SAVE CLEVELAND... is an idiot. And sorry if you've met some idiots in this town, but what town doesn't have their share of those?
I don't know WHAT the casino is going to do ... but i'm just relaying what people have said to me, mainly natives who have the cynical point of view.

I have encountered a disproportionate amount of weird people here so far, but that's not a jab at the city, it's more that I need to be more careful of who I let in my life.

i think things will work out, but it is taking longer here than it did in Chicago, it is what it is though.

Yea, I know. I understood you. I wasn't saying YOU said that.

Hang in there. There are a ton of cool and down to earth people in this town.
Keep looking. We are out there.

Let's just say that in the Queen City we're very discerning and selective. (not everyone we greet rates immediate approval)

I moved here because I fell into a great job that I want to make my career. So believe me when I say I'm trying to enjoy it here. But over and over I run into people like you who don't make me feel welcome in your city, so indifferent is a pretty nice description for my experience thus far.(because infidderent does mean neither good nor bad ...) I am still getting to know Cleveland but its hard when you feel like people think you're trying to brag because you came from a bigger city (which I'm not, however, I am generally skeptical of things like the casino "saving" the city), or busy in their own little cliques to bother with someone new.

But, you know, thanks for jumping on someone who is still trying to get to know the city and the area just because I haven't decided on how I feel about it yet.
Scarlet, Scarlet, Scarlet... If you could only realize the defeatist nature of the way you communicate, I think things would work out much better for you. You make over-the-top, sweeping generalizations and select verbiage that indicates your general displeasure, yet you're constantly on the defensive. I'd tend to guess that you carry on like this in your day-to-day life as well. Words like "indifferent" should not be used when you're trying to get to know something (or someone) because it comes across as meaning that you're apathetic. You want it to mean something else, but it doesn't. You would be best off saying that you are reserving judgment until you get to know the place better and leave it at that. Yet, you have already lumped everyone into one of two categories, ruled out anyone with religion, said Downtown is "weird," and stated you believe that people think you're bragging because you're from Chicago. From the 10,000 feet that I'm seeing this, you're apathetic, judgemental, and, probably the worst of the 3, you believe you're slightly superior because of your origin (trust me, nobody cares where you're from). It should be of no small wonder to you that you mostly attract people with bad intentions. People who just want something from you are the only ones willing to put up with that kind of attitude.

By the way, the only way you will ever "feel welcome" is when you finally drop your clearly apparent apprehension. It has nothing to do with someone else's honesty.

Coming from someone who likes to throw hand grenades over the wall any chance he gets, I'd say that you don't have a whole lot of room to talk. My general perception of you is that you're like that catty, disruptive, pre-conclusionary mess of a character played by Joe Pesci in that commercial who needs a Snickers bar really, really badly.

I also disagree with KSUSucks that people tend to judge you... by the high school you went to? Really?
I haven't had any one ask me what High School I went to...um... probably SINCE HIGH SCHOOL. lol
But the Cleveland-Lorain metropolitan population is decling; most recently, 2010-2011 (-7,000+).

Wow, a whopping 0.2% (90% of whom are a poverty export chasing low end manufacturing jobs that no longer exist)!

I find it interesting you're the only one that really took any offense with anything I said in this thread. I'm trying to make it here, but if more people I meet here act like you, then maybe I'll just stick to staying home all the time.

With that, I'm bowing out of the Cleveland forum. Thanks to those who haven't given me a hard time. I'll meet some new people that aren't coworkers somehow (despite being shy and introverted, which is a double whammy for me), or it's going to be a very lonely few decades haha!
