Default North Collinwood/Waterloo Arts?

Hi
I am relocating to Cleveland this summer. Very excited about this opportunity and really do enjoy the area. the city is beautiful, people are nice but not sticky sweet anoying nice, and so much to do relatively cheap!

I am curious about the N Collinwood/Waterloo Rd area in Cleveland. what are people's thoughts (continuing development, housing, area actually getting better?)

Thanks for your help

mike

Hi and welcome to Cleveland!

The best way to describe the area is gentrifying and developing, spurred mostly by artists. It's a place you live to make it better and have a sense of community.

They hold many grassroots types of events -- for example this weekend: https://www.facebook.com/rustbeltgrouphug

PROS:
- on the lake and great view of Downtown
- cheap, very cheap
- neighborhood culture and unity
- Beachland Ballroom The Beachland Ballroom
- Music Saves MUSIC SAVES | Independent Record Store | Cleveland, Ohio
- Art galleries and artists
- easy freeway access to Downtown and University Circle and suburbs

CONS:
- safety of surrounding areas
- grocery shopping outside of neighborhood
- not on train line, major public transportation would be St Clair bus

Good luck on your move!

I really do like the North Collinwood area. If you like music, it's really great! Beachland Ballroom brings tons of high quality acts to Waterloo every night of the week. It's one of my favorite places to hang out. Really cool local shops like Native Cleveland (Cleveland-themed clothing), Music Saves, and Blue Arrow Records. I don't live in North Collinwood, but I really have felt a cool sense of community there. Lots of artists and lots of musicians taking advantage of the cheap rent. The area is definitely on the rise in terms of getting some more amenities, but that being said, it is not as far along as, say, Tremont. A couple things I wouldn't like about living in North Collinwood would be 1) not ideally situated for public transportation, 2) kind of isolated. You gotta drive through 20 minutes of eye sores to get anywhere else you'd want to go on the east side.

But Waterloo is definitely not a bad idea! Good luck to you and welcome to town!

North Collinwood can be a little rough for a lot of people. We have a townhouse in Bratenahl...so I really hope that area keeps going up.

It's definitely gritty, but it isn't that dangerous. I'm not sure I'd ever raise a family there. But if urban pioneering is your thing...that's definitely the spot. The lack of public transportation(esp. the rapid) does work against it, though.
