Thanks Everyone...I'm feeling a little better now. Because at first...some of these posts had me petrified I've lived in more than a couple of places so I know that every place contains spots that tour guides usually avoid And I don't mind this...because you can't get away from it...but it makes sense to try and have a nice, safe, clean, place to live...even if you like to hang out in the more "lets just say exciting" parts of town. You guys have been very helpful, I'll get about the business of researching based on the things I've learned here.
I will keep you all posted on how it goes....

Detroit is not making any progress at all in gaining new residents. On the news it said that 200 families are moving out of Detroit every week. It is estimated that Detroit lost over 100,000 people since 2000, and there rate is continuing. In Detroits inner city areas there is especially no progress. In Cleveland, even the worst areas at least have some new houses being built. Look at Central, there used to be nothing but burnt out homes and empty lots between Cedar and Quincy, now the whole area is filled with new homes and apartments.

I guess you would probably want to direct this statement to some of your fellow Clevelanders...because I know NOTHING of Cleveland besides what is being posted on this forum...Basically the forum is all I have to go on....thus the reason for my original questions...."Asking for the the Truth" . Thanks

Probably not. Nevertheless, sugarcoating the situation in Cleveland will not help either current or future residents.
While Greater Cleveland has some wonderful inner and outer suburbs, the city proper itself needs a serious kick in the ass My recommendation is for the citizens to stop accepting second rate management and leadership from the bloated city government and to demand forward-thinking, progressive planning for the reconstruction of the city core, lake-front and public schools. Just moving out to the "safe" suburban areas won't help the city improve at all, since those areas don't get to vote for any of the city council or mayoral candidates. These folks need to be accountable to a much larger, scrutinizing eye.
Of course, if you have kids, who the hell wants to be a pioneer in a crummy neighborhood that might or might not improve...

I can understand your point...But my husband and I were just talking about this...and we were saying to each other that is was al whole lot simpler when we didn't have children...We could live anywhere .....such is not the case now...however, me knowing my family like I do, I don't think that the fact that we wouldn't be able to vote for mayoral candidates and such would stop us from having the same sense of community service that we have...we've found that there are always ways to help...and we try...which is another reason why I wanted to get the full picture of what's going on...if everyone thinks a place is bad...and no one likes where they are even a little bit...well then, to me it starts to kind of sound hopeless...but if you can find people who are still proud of where they live or where they grew up or even where they've adopted to live, then there is still some hope...I want to bring my family to a place that still has hope....basically.

Well, like I said, if you have children then it really changes things.
Don't misunderstand me. Greater Clevelanders have a lot of pride. Like I always say" If I don't love her, who will?". And there's always hope. But two generations of people have grown up in a city that's constantly been the butt of national jokes, losing sports teams, near-miss business investments, positive development and wholesale job/industry losses. You can't help but have a little bit of a complex from that. And I think that's why the leadership has been so lacking. People have just come to expect it. I've heard people suggest that it might be best to just plow all these Great Lakes cities down and start from scratch
Having said that, it's also one of the reasons that Clevelanders love their city so much...an underdog mentality. God forbid if one of the sports teams wins a championship(and the tribe look ready, thanks to a little help from the midges ). I think there may be a bit of a letdown After all, the city's worn that badge for so long...
I say rip it off and stand up for yourselves!
If you do move there, bring positive energy with you. That's what's needed most.

Being that I am familiar with Detroit, this thread comparing it to Cleveland, certainly helps me get a better sense of Cleveland!

I am very proud of where I live. My wife and I made a commitment to this town by buying a home.... are you ready for this? IN CLEVELAND. We moved from the suburbs to one of the best areas in Cleveland.
I don't always lock my doors, I never lock my car doors, we walk every where at night. My nieghborhood is SAFER then some suburbs, dare I say it.
Not to even mention when we do have a child there are 2 EXCELLENT public schools in my nieghborhood. Just hope we have a boy because the grade school one is BOYS only. lol
